Teams are working through the night, there's no big red "Off" button :)

Why don't they have a good night's rest and work through the day? Does it urgently need to be switched off before folks get out of bed in the morning?

David.

So is it still working for you now??? (humm I don't think so :)

I hope the big red buttons are clearly labelled. I'd hate someone to push the 'XT' one by mistake....

Right, your phone can still see the local tower so that's why you're getting reception. I saw an article on Computerworld that said it could be a few months before all the equipment's switched off and removed.

As Per http://www.telecom.co.nz/mobile/mobile/yourmobile/cdmanetworkclosure/

"You may still be able to see coverage bars on the screen of your mobile phone or device while we work to power down the network over the next few weeks. The reason for this is, in closing the CDMA network we need to be careful to not impact the XT (Smartphone) Network which means we must slowly decommission the CDMA network. However be assured that the network will not be live during this time, and will not work for voice calls (111 emergency calls), text and mobile data."

I went to ring a client this morning on their mobile and got a nice message saying the call can not be connected due to them being on the old CDMA network which has closed

Haha seriously?

You'd think people would have learned given the amount of constant nagging they should have been getting over the past year or so. It got everyone i know off fairly quickly.

You'd hate to be in a Telecom call center or shop today with all those people who hadn't had it click in their head with all the notifications that their phone is going to die.

Lol yes Seriously, guess some ppl out there totally oblivious to the network shut down (imagine what will happen when Analogue tv goes!)

Be good if Telecom had a grace period where ppl could still rescue their number onto an XT sim but don't think they are doing that.

With a phone we had getting two text notifications a day some days last week, and then finally even one from skinny, it's their own fault if they have ignored this.

The CDMA shut down team's commemorative t-shirt may explain this (as tweeted by @TelecomNZ)

Edit: Converted to hyperlink, as embedding image using the twitpic URL didn't work
