nitrotech: I'm planning on changing my wife's phone from contract to this prepay pack - can it be done with a call to Telecom or should we port to another provider and port back to Telecom?

Just call 123, or visit a store.

You'll need to be subscribed to the pack by the end of the month however.

Yep its easy as. Rang 123 sat morning- all done in a couple of minutes. Just make sure you've got $20 in credit before you ring.

Yep.. If you're already on prepaid just do it online plus topup with your credit card at: www.telecom.co.nz/mbbmeter

And to move from postpaid to prepaid you can as nzbnw said that can be done via 123 on in store.  Be aware that if you are under a mobile post-paid contract that early termination fee's may apply moving to prepaid.  But the change from pre/post paid is just a system one so no new SIM or phone number change needed.

I work for Telecom, but as always my views are my own.

Cheers have called 126 because its on the business account and apparently they have to get some 'team' to call me tomorrow

Another question though if I get a pre pay sim add this pack to it and keep in auto renewing until January can I then port a number over to it keeping the pack intact?

Pretty sure this pack is associated to the mobile number (as is most things within the system) rather than a partciular Sim Card... So if you ported a number in I wouldn't like you chances of keeping the plan as the "current" number would get disconnected off the sim along with the pack.  I'll ask around but I wouldn't like your chances.

This is good news, but telecom's website still said offer ends 31 Oct 2012.

Not sure if that's correct, I haven't seen any internal notification on the extension past the end of October.  So I wouldn't take the above statement as true until something changes on the Telecom site or there is some official advertising to that effect.

You can request a port to be entered into the system, but standard hours of Monday to Friday are usually observed for various reasons.

You can successfully port over the weekend but if an issue arises then it wont get sorted until weekday. Assuming no issue does arise then porting should only take 4 hours.
