I don't want to sound as though I'm supporting the status quo but when ever I hear someone claim that they can provide x service or y product for 30-40% cheaper than the competition the first thing that comes to mind is the compromises the made to get to said price and yet still make a profit. There is something not quite kosher when someone offers something that seems too good to be true.

Team - just for the record, this Spirit Telecom is not associated with NZ's Telecom Wholesale in any way, as others in the thread have picked up and pointed out.

Good to see a heathly level of scepticism around this call though, which I'd expect from an educated and knowlegable group such as this. If you do start getting regular calls from suspected scammers, there's a bit of information on our site.

Please note that Spirit Communications is most likely not the company the cold caller mentioned.

The link in the first page was a question, not a conclusion. It seems they are not related to the call, which probably comes from other company.

@richirvine I knew as soon as I picked up the phone that it wasn't a division of Telecom calling. It was far shiftier than a Telecom call! ;-)

The mystery does remain however. I agree that Spirit Communications are not involved here. The fact that there is no web presence for the mystery company strikes me as a bit suspicious.

Cheers, Matt.

You can actually confuse people pretty easily - and using the word 'Telecom' is enough to make many people think they are dealing with "Telecom NZ". Usually the telco says (when/if challenged) that the phone marketers (whatever you want to call them) were not their staff. They usually claim that its a marketing company that is to blame for confusing the potential customer.

In any event you might well have cause to complain to the Commerce Commission - but it could take years before anyone got wrapped over the knuckles.

I will take the OPs posting as a warning that there is a new (probably) dodgy marketing campaign from some business in progress at the moment..

HI There

I just had the same call, it was a person from Nz with a real kiwi voice.

Yesterday they called and said they were from a company and I missed the name, they went on so much that I said call back tomorrow.
They called back today, I got them to spell out the name, It was Spirit Telco, I then said I am interested but could they send an email with all the details....she hung up on me. My advise, get rid of them.

Cheers

Jimmy

The only "Spirit Telecom" in the Offices has an Israel-based director.

I wonder if it's the same company.

The direct debit form on the spirittelco.co.nz site gives a hint to who they are.

www.spirittelco.co.nz  (mentioned above) is a division of NXT Telecom (whoever they are)
