Hi, I see that Telecom is now offering the Lumia 920 and I would like to upgrade however just one question: If I place the phone on my Telecom account how long do I have before I have to pay it off completely? I am looking at paying it back in within 2 months. MacBook Pro 13.3" Mid-2012; iMac 3.4Ghz 27-inch (BTO) Late-2012; iPhone 5 64GB; Airport Extreme Base Station

You can setup a smart onebill account which allows you to pay it off over 12 months on a "zero monthly cost usage only postpaid account" attached to your existing homeline with broadband (there is a minimum monthly spend with getting a smart onebill when doing the deferred payment i'm pretty sure). I'm fairly sure you can pay it off sooner if you choose to, but worth checking when you're in-store but I couldn't see a reason why you would get a penalty for paying it off sooner. But at the same time it's just as easy to pay it off evenly over the 12 months and be on whatever pre/postpaid plan you want. I work for Telecom, but as always my views are my own.

You could try and time your purchase so that the cost of the phone appears on the following bill. Find out what day your bill prints and purchase phone on that day. The charge for the phone will appear on the following bill and you have 2 weeks to pay. Therefore before that 2nd bill prints you could pay 1/2 on the current account putting it in credit before the next bill prints then the balance on the 2nd bill.

You can do that again now?? Last year when i bought both my wife and my mother in laws new fones we were told we couldn't pay it off unless it went on to a post paid play other than "Onebill" so we had to pay upfront. $999 is a bit to pay upfront.. Pretty sure you can, there was a period of time where you had to go onto a contract to do it though. If you do this you can "pay it off early" by just disconnecting the Onebill number, that will make the rest of the payments all appear at once on the next bill

I am also on account already (100 smart plan) and would love to be able to get a lumia and pay it off over 12 months (have 18 months left) however telecom said it has to be a "new contract" or open a new one bil plan however we don't have phone/internet with telecom so i cant even do that. It would be nice if you have 12+ months left on your contract etc if telecom would let you take up the interest free offer

Wouldn't it be easier to just buy in from harveynorman or similar? The phones are typically cheaper so should offset anyinterest paid Usual disclaimer regarding my employer http://twitter.com/joff_nz

And Telecom's Broandband offering is pretty sweet. But the Smartone bill i'm 99% sure you need to have an existing homeline since it's charged against your homeline. I don't think it's a plan offering to mobile only customers. I work for Telecom, but as always my views are my own.
