When Telecom limits your connection speed due to going over cap, when does the speed return to full speed? At midnight on the plan rollover date? I'd expect so, but, I've not been speed limited before. I'm wondering if telecom changed the speed limiting method with their recent 'migration' that caused the outages. Sometimes they do not speed limit if you go over on the last day of your plan, but, now, it appears they might have changed this.

You're normally throttled as soon as (within 30 mins) you go over your cap. On the unthrottling it's within 3 hours of your anniversary date... So normally I have seen reports of folks being unthrottled for the day before their anniversary date.. None of the recent upgrades should have changed any of the throttling process. I work for Telecom, but as always my views are my own.

Telecom doesn't legally have to unthrottle you until the first day of your new billing month. What happens in practice is that you should be unthrottled on the last day of your billing cycle before 7-8am.

Pleasantly surprised. The slowdown seems to be worse than dial-up -- some webpages wouldn't load as they would time out so I was pleased to be unthrottled. Or, maybe it is just modern websites assume people have broadband.

That chimes with my (unscientific) experience of not being throttled if go over the limit on the last afternoon of billing cycle. I understand the throttled speed will be increasing to 128kbs at some point soon, it was briefly published when the new broadband plans were published on the Telecom website, before being changed back to 64kbs.

Any experience on how long plan changes take? Was throttled last night, the day the family arrives from overseas. Now no broadband for them to finish work stuff today. I did a plan change last night over the phone, but still no change this morning. New month is tomorrow, so just bad timing I guess.

how offen are the reading taken? can xtra gaurentee a reading is taken, say two minutes from the end on the users month end date? as from the posts above people say the cap comes off on the last day of the users month.

Other than the Fair Trading Act and a few other general principles around contracts and advertised service, I don't think you will find much legislation relating to the time/date of unthrottling an internet connection. Seeing "legally" this, and "legally" that bandied around as if it's a lawyer with a passed bill makes me laugh. Yes, they "should" unthrottle you at the right time, and if they don't, an eventual remedy could be legal action, but a judge or the police would laugh you out the door unless it was a severe ongoing issue, that had failed at mediation with the likes of the TDRS. If it's still throttled then you can ring up the helpdesk on 0800 225598 and they should be able to check the current situation, and run a service order on the spot if it's wrong to unthrottle you. I work for Telecom, but as always my views are my own.

According to the usage meter, it is updated every hour. I recall that there was a disclaimer on the usage meter saying something to the effect of at the end of your billing month, if you want to guarantee that your usage is billed to the correct month, best to restart your modem just before midnight. That message seems to have disappeared though. I could be wrong ....
