Hi, Not sure if this is the right place, but...

I have two sets of parents, mine + inlaws, swapping from legacy xnet plans to Telecoms new $75 and $85 broadband plus home line plans.  Presently they have both made their phone calls to Telecom to sign up for their deal (both were with Telecom for their landline component anyway).

I'm just wondering what the steps are behind the scenes to achieve this?

As in, are there any wiring changes required in the field?
When do they contact xnet to advise them their services are no longer required?
How long are they likely to be without a broadband connection etc?

All that sort of stuff.

Worth checking with xnet first as they may need 30 days notification first saying that you are intending to move.

Then after that just get Telecom to handle the whole move.

Normally you would only be off for a few hours during the provisioning change and reboot / replace the router depending on what you want to do.

For Telecom now you don't need a username / password so it just authenticates via the line you're coming in via.

I work for Telecom, but as always my views are my own.

OK thanks, I'll get them onto the formal xnet notification of departure...

If they use Xnet email, check that they will cancel that or if they keep it, check if there will be ongoing email charges. As you wont have any other services, there is bound to be.

Yeah I'm using this as a line in the sand to get them to change to gmail or hotmail/outlook web email.  I want them to close those xnet email accounts so they are finally not tied to any ISP.

All done Smile

2x parents/inlaws moved to Telecom.  New modems were extremely easy to setup and both did this on their own.  I went and finished off the wireless bit and the email migration.

Laptop running Vista didn't work with the new modem, but came right eventually after upgrading the wireless chipset driver.

'Windows Live Mail' on Windows 7 doesn't export contacts in a format that Hotmail/Outlook.com imports without a bit of excel manipulation.

Running ADSL 2+ now and much faster than the older capped upload xnet plan.

Thanks.
