grant_k: Given that my contract has just expired on the Sierra 595 Data Card I have been using for the past couple of years, what do you recommend as a replacement for use with the XT Network and connected via a USB interface rather than a card slot?

I guess I am asking for the equivalent of a T-Stick which is compatible with the XT Network. Any suggestions?

We don't know the device lineup yet.

@grant_k Right now we cannot give you any details on devices other than the two we have already announced. All will be revealed on launch day.

catapulter: Hi there,

I think that #37 has an error, (not sure though).

I do not believe that prepaid customers are eligible for handset vouchers as they are not in any sort of contractual arrangement, as is suggested by the information that is posted.

I believe those vouchers are eligible only to postpaid (people on contracts or going into contracts).

Cheers,

You did read it as they only get the voucher if they commit to an account with the specified term? You're not reading it as prepay customers get a voucher and stay on prepay?

The wording is that they will be contracted for a 12 or 24 month term.
But the very nature of Prepay is that you do not 'have' to put credit in every month or whatever.

From a business perspective there is some logic to offering a voucher to someone who is paying a regular amount (postpaid) every month, but no logic to doing the same thing for someone who is not required to pay anything every month.

After all they could just take the SIM out throw it in the drawer and sell the hand set on trademe, and possibly make a small profit....

That's my thought anyway.

@grant_k: I would suggest wait until XT has launched and use their new data device (lets face it:  if there isn't one then they would FAIL big time!), as you seem to intend to do. It would surely have to be a good idea to use their card (initially at least), as they have to provide full support for it. Plus it will have been set up especially for XT, in the same way that overseas phones will work, but probably not quite as well as those of the exact same models bought from Telecom. That way it will maximise speed/ping etc and just generally it will probably be a better experience.  Hopefully the new data plans will be better too :)

PS, isn't this getting a little off-topic?

Just a couple of questions I have heard people ask (and answers where possible).  I don't really care about the answers btw: I will be on XT soon as work are getting us new phones.  Just thought others out there may benefit from them:

Q:  Can I go back from XT to CDMA if I want to?  -  (eg if I lose my phone?)
A:   Prepaid yes, Plans ???

Q:  How much will SIM cards cost (if anything)?
A:  TBC

Q:  After 13th May, can I still sign onto an old plan (like Flexi Mytime) if I wanted to?
A:  ???

Q:  Will $10TXT be on the new network?
A:  TBC

Q:  Will the new smartphones be able to MMS?
A:   ???

Question from myself:

Will Telecom allow you to keep any existing CDMA plan and addons (like my beloved limited Flexi long weekend special and the 450 free SMS plan $10 txt) as well as setups like MyFavourites and Freedom?

If the above is true, Will Telecom allow you to change the data/SMS plan to a new WCDMA one? (Currently FlexiData $1.12 per MB)

Smaller Question

Will Telecom be supporting Circuit-switched and Data and DataFAX support?

It's not the single hardcoded access realm system of CDMA any more so I'm quite sure the support will be there for any MMS cabable device as per most GSM networks worldwide.

@paradoxsm Telecom have chosen not to deploy Circuit Switched and Fax services on the XT Network for launch.

Sorry yes, quite right, I meant GSM as in the standards, not the TDMA network implementation, my bad.
