I think I may have a solution courtesy of Dick Smith Warkworth.  The store manager tried using the GSM network connection from 'Control Panel', 'Network and Sharing Center', 'Connect to a Network'.  This, of course, bypasses the Telecom 'Connect Me' software - but it worked!

We see this constantly at laptops-r-us in napier.
The local telecom shop sends their customers down to see us.

The simple fix for us is just a windows system restore and roll it back a week or so.

The software they come with is really crap and i wish they would stop bundling it inside the virtual cdrom drive but instead use maybe a 64mb micro flash drive inside the reader on the side of the dongle or a 220mb cdrom disc.

My experiences with this MF190 stick have been less than satisfactory.

I know that the stick and the software is good, because I had successfully installed it on a Windows Home Server ( ver 1). Found the modem, made a connection to network ( via a very long bamboo stick and 5m USB cable ..)

However, on my Win7 laptop - no end of dramas. Same software, same stick, but would forever notify that the modem was "device disabled".

Uninstalled, and cleaned out program directories, hunted thru the registry to remove any links to the software and modem, re-installed, reboot, tried the software direct from zte.co.nz.

Disabled various other installed modems and VPN connections .. All to no avail .. wasted too much time.

Despairing of ever get a mobile broadband connection, purchased a 2deg Huawei E1552 stick.

plugged in, installed the software and drivers, and I was up and running with 15 minutes !

Just worked, no messing around disabling anything ... just nice and easy.

It really must be a poor inplementation of the software for Telecom.

Re-imaging / system restore was not going to be an option, especially since the huawei modem worked straight off...

I found a fix that worked for a customers PC I'm working on. Uninstall the telecom connect software and drivers, use the ZTE driver uninstall utility to make sure everything is gone. Now under the windows 7 user profile find the folder user-name\AppData\Local\Telecom delete the Telecom folder this appears to hold the user settings. Reinstall the T-stick like normal but use the drivers off www.zte.co.nz
