Have you changed to receiving one notification per hour or one for every reply?

Good idea to delete old notifications :-)

I have not changed anything. This has been the standard behavior for as long as I can remember. I get a notification for every reply.

Keeping the notifications, I find that useful for quickly locating previous topics I have posted to.

Notifications can be set to
  • one for all replies
  • one notification only until next time  you visit the topic
  • one notification only per hour (reset when you visit the topic)
  • one notification only per day (reset when you visit the topic)
I use one per hour and it works well - not an overflow of notifications. I am actually considering changing this to be the default.

Note we have changed the authentication used in the URL for the RSS feeds - update your reader accordingly.

Did some googling. The 61 messages limit for one sided conversations is a well known thing for gmail. For many sided conversations it breaks at 100 messages.

Regarding notifications, a per topic choice would be ideal depending on interest. I'm sure you have more urgent things to do.

Just done my forum update - caching results for email notification links, which would save a few hundred database reads for every reply in a long thread - always good to save database reads...

gzt: I sense a disturbance in the force...

And you were correct. I've found the problem while coding something around more performance improvements. This should be fixed now and you should see consistency from now on.

May the force be with you!
