I've been reading geekzone on my tablet a little lately, though it runs resonably well, I thought I would put through the suggestion to maybe have a tablet centric CSS/theme?

The main reason I ask is that the image adverts are generally fine, but flash adverts really bog down a tablet.

Ideally in my mind Geekzone on a tablet would load with image/text adverts only and be optimised for touching topics (ie a page for most popular/recent discuessions rater than a bit to the side).

The second part would be ideal, however I believe Geekzone works quite well on a tablet anyway, the big one is the flash adverts.

If anything could be done it would be greatly appreciated.

We currently don't identify tablets as "mobile" so we are serving full ads. This is because people asked to show the full Geekzone by default instead of the mobile version. Some of the ads are served by Google directly so not much we can control. But what I can do is from now on exclude ads booked directly through us to not show on tablets.

I can put some time into looking around the whole mobile detection logic and perhaps come out with a new category as in "mobile", "tablet" and "desktop". This will take some time - not something I will do this week or next, but will be done.

Browsing on iPad is mostly great, does it automagically detect and not serve flash ads?
I have some issues when composing replies, autocorrect freaks out, otherwise desktop site works v well for me.

Cheers.

Yes it has the famous Steve Jobs Flash filter installed! IE it does not support flash :-)

You could just make flash support 'on demand' instead of 'Automatically' in your tablet browser settings...

Is there a specific mobile geekzone version?

If there is...
What's the address or does the site autodetect the device?
How does the mobile version look on a tablet?

Yes, there's one, for years now. Geekzone automatically detects a mobile device and redirects to the appropriate page (forum or news). Other pages are always shown as full version.

The address is (obviously) http://m.geekzone.co.nz (or http://www.geekzone.mobi).

Tablets used to be shown the mobile version by default, but

1. The layout is ideal for small screens
2. Users asked to make the default full version on tablets
