glad to see progress being made here, keep it up :)

@vodafone reps, sorry my notes on when it happens next hasnt come, hard to test the dns with a cut phoneline (why you need to dig that deep for a footpath idk..)

anyway on the upside my draytek arrived a few days ago so i can see if the issue doesnt exist there ;)

Sorry about the hassle - that FRE should be cleared before COB today hopefully. Now that you have your new router, I strongly suspect it may solve your issue but some future feedback once you've spent some quality time with it would be great.

Btw, is your Draytek a residential gateway or is it business-class?

not sure as to what you mean by FRE, i assume you mean the fault... it better be cleared up today. 5th day with no internet and second time chorus have provided a completion time of 7PM and failed to meet it, however that issue isnt part of the dns issue :L

as for the draytek, its a DV2710NE, was recommended a while back on GZ as a stable/strong router for long lines.. just hope the join being put into the line doesn't further mess our attention (oh i cant wait for RBI to finally come..)

i suppose thats more of a residential gateway rather than a business class one, but couldnt stretch things to go for a rather more expensive option :L

Any more news on this issue. I have run into it myself, used to be 2-3 second breaks and then continue, so was not really an issue. In the last couple of weeks have had to reset the router multiple times a day. Have had the line filters replaced and a new Vodafone router, lasted 4 hours and 15 minutes before the DNS stopped working. Don't think I can try another router manufacturer as we are also running a SureSignal (femtocell) because of horrible mobile reception where we are.....

AFAIK, you can just open the ports for the suresignal and its good.

as for the dns issues, since moving to a decent router we havent had any issues on computers, still noticing issues on mobile devices due to their use of dns over tcp (mainly google play)... still working on finding the best way around that (anyone whos good with drayteks who want to pipe in and letme know a properway to fix it rather than opening ports or using upnp.

i have now turned to letting the router hand out its ip as the primary dns server (so it prefers to use vodafones), however it also sends out the secondary as the ip of googles dns (8.8.8.8). this has been in place for the last day or two and im still toying with it, since the draytek logs all to my computer i do see when it fails to get dns requests, getting a stock of them to send away to vodafone. however with the likes of chromes dns caching etc this doesnt get hit very often so it makes it hard to tell when its happening.

Thanks for that info, haven't had much to do with the SureSignal devices, so that is really handy to know. I got off the phone from VF support about 25 minutes ago and I am going to set a DNS manually on the machines, and they gave me the following DNS addresses to use (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4).
Will see how we go with the alternative DNS servers.

googles dns servers are reasonably fast so it should be good, not 100% on this, but pretty sure vodafones cache servers get hit a tad less using the google ips, one of the vodafone guys around here will confirm that im sure (or ill do it when i get home)...

dont actually bother to watch if its cache or not considering my line maxes out to international connections at peek.. not hard with 220kb/s however..

hopefully vodafone find a fix soon though, having to give out googles dns servers probably isnt the best...

Hi folks,

Apologies for not posting sooner with an update. It seems there may be a firmware issue with the Huawei routers which the vendor is now aware of and working on a fix. Unfortunately this is not a quick solution but as soon as the firmware has been deployed and tested, I will update this thread.

Sorry the news isn't better. :(

Thanks for the update. Disappointing news considering this product has been around for a number of years now.

This is true, however it wasn't until a couple of month ago when we started tracking the faulting tickets for DNS related issues that we discovered the issue. Because the DNS drop is easily fixed by rebooting the router, it is rare for fault tickets to be lodged for this sort of thing. And rebooting the router is usually the first course of action when your internet stops working, so it is a 'hidden' issue, so to speak.

Hence my gratitude that some of the more technical posters here have been able to help isolate this issue and work towards a fix. Wink

Above describes my symptoms exactly. I have been on the phone with Vodafone, and have done restart tests, and isolation tests.

I just have no internet from around 6pm to 9pm. Its now back on by crawling slow. And this happens daily for the last week or so.

Any advice, or if Vodafone listening can you sort out?

thanks daryl

Using one of the DrayTek DV2710NE modems my self now, so far it's been very robust.
