Its horses for courses... I switched from XT to 2D due to price, not happy with the quality of network service (fringe west akld) VF then tempted me across with a massive discount on the Galaxy S2 and i have never looked back, I managed to lock into the legacy smart plans with double minutes and 3gb/mth data for life, it is not the cheapest option nor is it the most expensive, i get a good all round service with plenty of data, no need to worry about buying packs or zoned data rates.

When my contract is up in a years time I will discuss my options with VF because i am always out to add value (different from cutting cost). I don't expect them to chase me, nor do i see this as a burden to have to chase them, i have options of which one of those options is to negotiate better terms with my incumbent provider, its usually beet er the devil you know so they say...

I'm in West Auckland too.  Did you find a big difference switching to Vodafone from 2degrees?  I'm kind of hesistant - as at the moment I've resorted to using voip over wifi to my cellphone.  And I at least get text messages after about 6 hours or so.  But would rather get them within 15 minutes.

just reading this thread I thought I'd throw in that every situation is treated on a case by case basis and the offer you receive may differ from what?s been talked about.

The big lesson is that if you are dissatisfied or contemplating leaving Vodafone for any reason call us before you do, we want to know what we can do to help you before you make that leap. Often an issue is not that hard to fix and we have people that are passionate about getting it right.

I was a vodafone customer for ~12 years, and you were my primary mobile provider until a few years ago, when my then employer provided me with a company Telecom phone. I switched my 021 as a prepay, and kept it sitting there quietly planning to go back to you once I was no longer in that position.

When I started a new job earlier this year, and once again had a choice of mobile providers, I went to your website, and compared your listed prices with those of your competitors. Your prices were higher.. much higher. So I am no longer a vodafone customer.

I shouldn't have to ring you, and try and twist your arm to get a special deal. You should automatically match or beat any prices your competitors offer, publically, for all your customers.

The fact that a vodafone CS account would make a post like this is just pure /facepalm and sadly typical of the attitude of Vodafone.

The one and only thing I will miss about being on Vodafone is JohnR, who quite frankly is a bloody legend.

I know quite a few people leaving vodafone, and they're still a business as far as I'm aware, so would still need paying customers. Keen to move to Vodafone, but at this rate it doesnt look like that will be happening if they're this picky about who they want to offer their services too.


Why not go 2Degress then, you get almost as much data and way more minutes for $39.


I've been on 2degrees in the past and when I'm at home, I get no more than 2bars of 2G service, moving around my local neighbourhood varies the signal a bit but not useful considering I cant get much at home where I want to use my phone.

I'm in West Auckland too.  Did you find a big difference switching to Vodafone from 2degrees?  I'm kind of hesistant - as at the moment I've resorted to using voip over wifi to my cellphone.  And I at least get text messages after about 6 hours or so.  But would rather get them within 15 minutes.


I'm based in New Lynn and coverage at my house was hit n miss, virtually you could draw a diagonal line of which half was unusable the other fine, data speeds were terrible, wifi was the only option. 

Riverhead Highway would have you bouncing in and out of the MBB zone, up around glen eden, waiatarua, kumeu was also hit n miss, phone wouldn't ring, but would show a missed call regularly. VF on the other hand seems to pretty seamless over the same areas, I seem to get consistent 3~5 Mbps and no dropped/missed calls

I'm not a big texter but never struck a problem that i am aware of either network

I am with Vodafone's "Smart $45" plan and I get the following; 



Plus an extra 1GB of data for the first 6months, which finishes this month. 

I was considering 2Degrees $39 pay monthly plan (with extra 1GB data and extra 100mins bonus);



..But was sad I would lose the Best Mate, network coverage (?), and paying for seconds rather than rounded-up-to nearest minute.

So called Voda and asked if they can match it. They did! They offered an extra 1GB and an extra 100mins calling on top of my Smart $45 for free for life. 

They get the thumbs up from me.


Well I dont know how you got your deal, but I have been trying through our business relationship manager since 9th June and still no confirmation. If we move mobile then we will also move tolls to VOIP.

I called before deciding to leave. It was the call and complete lack of interest in even discussing things that resulted in my leaving. Vodafone had only had my business since taking over BellSouth and I was both a very early BellSouth customer AND one of the first wave of Vodafone resellers. But, loyalty is a two-way street. The staff member who said he could help me did not put me through to any retention/save team member and made it very clear that Vodafone didn't give a damn if I stayed or went. I went, as did the other account in our house. That was one Vodafone had only had for 10 years.

I know there are some very passionate, customer-focused people within Vodafone. Some are here on these forums. However, Vodafone will continue to have problems with customer relations as long as call centre staff lack that same commitment to the company & its customers.

I called today and after a small chat with the first phone rep, got put through to the retention team without any hassles, just said that I was looking at swapping to 2 degrees and there $39 deal.

Came away with 300 minutes, 2500 txts, 1.25 gigs of data and 1 free best mate with $5 off my bill per month for a total of $40 for the next 2 years (although not tied in to any contract).

Was on an old iPhone plan from a few years back getting 30 minutes and 3 gigs of data but never used it.

Over all very happy with the service I received and the end result. Fast, friendly and efficient. Nice one Vodafone :)
