I have one of the vodafone broadband routers (white one), which as far as I know, is ADSL2+ capable, and looking at the chorus website, we are in a adsl2+ area

Is there any way I can check on the router info as to what type of signal it is being received?

On speedtest.net, I max out at around 8mbps down and 700odd up, which seems pretty good bu asl standards, but a long way off adsl2+.

On the map, our house is in the right zone, but interestingly, the top of our street is not, I would assume this would impact what I am receiving, depending on where the cabinet is located etc

The only thing I can see on the router page is "service status" which shows speed 8.1MBP/S , connected via ADSL, I can't seem to get into any further detail than that?

Is there a section I am missing?

With the modem showing an Attainable of 10,356kbps that would indicate that you are on ADSL2+ equipment and about 2km from the exchange or cabinet.

If you are keen, it would be a good idea to unplug all phones, sky etc from all of your jackpoints and try the modem in each one. Once you have sync access the same status page to see if there is any variation in the connect rate.

Your attenuation is quite high. This either indicates quite a distance from the cabinet/exchange or poor internet wiring causing the issue.

I would recommend installation of a master filter.

Pretty sure that has been done, it is a brand new house, line running into something like a signet board.

Whole house is wired cat5e with standard rj45 plugs in each room. ADSL line is running direct from splitter to modem within the board/panel and distrbuted via its own ports to a few points and ph line split out from there, only have a single ph line running in, no sky & alarm is not hooked up.

Could possibly be the cat5e runs too close to power cables in the roof?

It is possibly a distance thing, we are at the end of a longish cul de sac, the entry to the road would be 5 - 700m or so which I would guess is the path the telecom wiring would follow, who knows how far the entrance of the street is to the nearest box / exchange.

As I said in my original post, speed is "ok", can usually download anywhere between 5 - 700 KB/s, sometimes a little more depending on the time of day, was more curious if the router would say "adsl 2+" or not

Hi sen8or,

I can confirm that all Huawei HG556A modems are ADSL2 capable, even though they're not specifically labelled as such. The modem is connecting at >ADSL1 speed, so that's a good indication of what it's capable of :) It is pretty much your attenuation (which is an indication of your distance from the Exchange as previously mentioned) that is responsible for your current speed. If your throughput does seem a little slower than it should be or if it varies wildly at different times during the day that could be fault related.  You could always give our contact center a ring and have a chat with one of our staff who could have a look at your line stats in more detail.
