Topic # 107521 13-Aug-2012 20:56 Send private message

Hi last week or so I've been experiencing weird fluctuations in download speeds.  Doesn't seem to be any common thread like, national vs international or http vs ftp.  Speed test are also varying wildly.

From my router logs I am getting a lot of

seq:3591726117 1492 bytes is out-of-order; expected seq:3591720309

I haven't changed anything on my side and this is happening on all the PC's in the house (5).

Any ideas as to where I should start looking?

Have you got a master splitter installed on the telephone line coming into the house from the road?

Review this thread on the Vodafone NZ forum

Also please post modem stats

Are you in a area that cabinets are now getting deployed?

No, no splitter, only one active jackpoint (master).  Vodafone Red Naked for ~ 2 years.  Usually get full line speed, only been a problem for the last few weeks.

Yea, same here.  Does this mean my modem is broken and I need to buy a new one?

Can't tell if the modem has an issue unless you try another, Lots of rain about over the last week or so this might be causing a issue

Ohh ok, does rain cause out of order bytes (what does that even mean) or break modems? Is it like a lightning strike or something?

Rain has a habit of finding where the weak points / cracks are in telephone cables

Your issue will not be related to out of order bytes

Aren't phone cables underground, in conduits?
