So for a number of years Vodafone have been operating a spam filter on the mail servers.

Yes it's a good idea, I'm sure that it picks up heaps of spam and stops my inbox from been cluttered up with pills for this that and the other thing, timeshare and internet banking account alerts at banks I don't even have an account with.

Sometimes the occasional bit of spam does find it's way thru to my inbox, but that is to be be expected.

Here is the problem I have, what happens to all the genuine email that gets swept up by the spam filter? Is there anyway for me to see exactly which emails are been collected by the spam filter and alert Vodafone to the genuine ones so they can tweak the filter or allow this particular email address to no be filtered out?

I'm sure there are genuine emails been caught in the spam filter, A particular company I have 2 accounts with, one using my vodafone supplied email address and the other using a gmail address, as far as I can tell I get all the emails to my gmail address, but my vodafone address only *sometimes* gets the emails, So I could get in contact with vodafone and get them to tweak things to allow the emails, but recently I've now noticed that a 2nd place that i've used my vodafone address at is suffering from the same problem, yes a easy fix was to change to my gmail address.

But this raises a big question, how much other genuine email is been filtered out? How do I find out which ones?

Does Vodafone email have a webmail option? There should be a junk/spam folder there that you can access false positives.

Hi Greg

Spam is a frustrating cat and mouse game! I understand we can find out why the spam filter is grabbing particular emails. My colleague Lon will be in the office tomorrow and can look into it for you then. She previously worked in our faults team and has many good geek skills.

Please private message your contact details to Lonzelle and forward a copy of the email you received on your gmail address but not on your Vodafone address to onlinecare@vodafone.com (Attention it to Lon, it's a shared mailbox for our team). Lon's Geekzone profile is here

I will be doing that, this really is not the issue as I know the contents of the missing vodafone emails, the issue is how many other emails are there that are genuine but getting grabbed by the spam filter and tossed in to the black hole? and is there anyway to review exactly what is been gobbled up by the spam filter and bring it to the attention of the person who manages it!

To give you a rough idea I can count on one hand the number of cases I have dealt with of legit email going missing due to the spam filter on one hand since 2007. This time was spent mostly working across Biz tech support and later complaints. It certainly is possible but in my experience very rare.

I believe Vodafone use Cisco Ironports for mail filtering, if they do then you can expect them to get 1 in a million messages wrong which is pretty good.

For what it's worth Ironports are kick-ass mail filtering appliances.
