Topic # 138639 11-Jan-2014 17:58 One person supports this post Send private message

Im currently paying $189 for 150gb warpspeed with a t-box and sport + 2nd decoder. I wanted to up my plan but according to your call centre this is not possible as im already on the maximum for my conection?
I've been looking at other providers (snap) they can do 350gb vdsl for $110 or 600gb for $130 if i get the 600gb plan ill just end up downloading all the tv i want to watch anyway. So there goes the t-box decoders and thats a good thing cos they are slow and the worst consumer device ever made.
Yes i know the internet will be slower but ADSL2+ can handle HDTV anyway. Also i never get the full 130 down anyway im currently downloading from a server in germany at 520kb/s it takes a couple of hrs just to transfer 1 gb of data on warpspeed.
Is there any plans to increase the data caps in the near future?

Hello... Our robot found some keywords in your post, so here is an automated reply with some important things to note regarding broadband speeds.

If you are posting regarding DSL speeds please check that

- you have reset your modem and router
- your PC (or other PCs in your LAN) is not downloading large files when you are testing - you are not being throttled by your ISP due to going over the monthly cap
- your tests are always done on an ethernet connection to the router - do not use wireless for testing
- you read this topic and follow the instructions there.

Make sure you provide information for other users to help you. If you have not already done it, please EDIT your post and add this now:

- Your ISP and plan
- Type of connection (ADSL, ADSL2, VDSL)
- Your modem DSL stats (do not worry about posting Speedtest, we need sync rate, attenuation and noise margin)
- Your general location (or street)
- If you are rural or urban
- If you know your connection is to an exchange, cabinet or conklin
- If your connection is to a ULL or wholesale service
- If you have done an isolation test as per the link above

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

I recommend you read these two blog posts:

- Is your premises phone wiring impacting your broadband performance? (very technical)
- Are you receiving a substandard ULL ADSL2+ connection from your ISP?

Shrub, I feel your pain.
I too have a TelstraClear / Vodafone Warpspeed cable connection with a pathetic maximum data cap of 150GB, and a 2-year contract (silly me).
The speed is great, the data cap is ridiculously low.
As I typically use 300-500GB per month, I have a second ADSL2 connection (Orcon Genius unlimited) - this is cheaper than paying extortionate overage rates to Vodafone, and provides redundancy for both internet and phone.
I will soon be upgrading the Orcon connection to VDSL.
TelstraClear / Vodafone have not reviewed their data allowance since April 2012 - and times have changed.
Like many others, I would be happy to pay a little extra for the option of a larger data allowance - even 300GB would be an improvement.

No offense intended, johnr :)
I joined TelstraClear just before the Vodafone takeover, when the maximum data cap was 150GB, and I understand that I am tied into this contract for 2 years.
I am charged (severely) if I exceed 150 GB. I am charged (severely) if I break the contract.
Since then Vodafone have offered a 250GB maximum data cap for new customers.
I don't know whether I could upgrade to 250GB without penalty, but even if I could, there would be little point in my doing so because 250GB is still not nearly enough for my requirements. 500GB would be ideal.
Thus my comment "Not enough".

I cannot get UFB (because I'm in a cable area - Catch 22)
I can get VDSL - I'm getting connected next week - Orcon unlimited - but it will be slower than cable or UFB.

There should be no reason that I am aware of stopping you from changing to the 250GB plan with no fee or anything

Sorry to play devil's advocate here but isn't this something that you should have seen in the contract during sign-up?

I was in a existing contract on the 40GIG plan with phone on cable but have been allowed to upgrade to the latest promo 80GIG with phone and speed upgrade to 50MB/s and five free best mates and free wireless router (when they are back in stock)  but had to agree to another 12 month contract to get it.

In same boat pretty much. Data caps are way too low. Currently from all services Voda get around $300 a month from me. I move away from cable to UFB in two months and unless caps change will not be staying. I actually like the TBox and would keep it over mySky any day.

I had cable when it was new and Saturn as one of the first Chch customers so its a sad day for me.

I can double the cap, have overnight unlimited, add sky and still pay less. Voda time to review your caps but I very much doubt you dont know this as far to many people post here and elsewhere that they no longer stack up.
