Are these settings supposed to make 3g work?

I have a Sony Ericsson Z800i and have not been able to get the 3g website to work yet.

I have downloaded the settings off the Vodafone website. I have downloaded the settings off the Sony Ericsson website. Both are the same as your settings. But I can't get the 3g Vodafone live website. I get a Vodafone website that has Bro Town, Missey Elliot, 3g info etc etc but it's not the 3g Vodafone live site. It's doesn't say "Vodafone Live" anywhere though or anything about it being "3g".

How do I get to the right website with the video streaming? Does anyone know the actual address to goto? I have tried going to "VLIVENZ" but it goes to the same webiste.

I would like to try video streaming before I have to pay for it to see if it's worth it.

live.vodafone.com is the vflive address
the z800 faces specific problems relating to firmware and vf has support for the specific nz v800 firmware only

jaredmc, that's the problem when buying a none-NZ specific cellphones, it is not customised to Vodafone NZ's settings. one of the thing that you will have to put up with if getting overseas cellphones or parallel-imported cellphones.

Ah that sucks. I only bought the Z800i because I liked the silver colour and I wanted to be able to use mp3s as ringtones (I think they are the only 2 differences between the two anyway).

I just had a look at live.vodafone.com and it comes up with the same page. Still no Vodafone logos but it has been updated with a picture of Madonna and some Britney Spears thing.

I have read a few threads that mention changing the firmware to the v800's. Has anyone successfully managed to get this to work? I have a usb data cable but have no idea how to change the firmware.

Could someone tell me how by replying in this thread or by sending me an email?

Thanks.

The v800 allows mp3's to be used as ringtones (only the NZ version though) but not downloaded music clips (and who would bother!)

That makes my decision even stupider! I read international comparisions and thought that the v800 couldn't use the mp3s and I hate polyphonic ringtones.

Please don't tell me I miss out on Vodafone Live 3G because of a different coloured face plate!

Has no-one got a Z800i working? I am happy to try different firmwares I just don't know how.

Not at this stage.. "muppet" might be able to help but at this point, Vlive will just not work :-(

with the mp3's, We seemed lucky with the locally released v800, but others from abroad won't work.

I went into a store with my i-mate to try before I bought. I bluethoothed it after wrapping the file on my PC at home and we tried and finally it worked... I had made ringtones, wrapped them in DRM manager and bluetoothed them painstakingly to my phone.

It was about 2 weeks before I accidentally "set as ringtone" on an mp3 file and to my glee it worked!! (and did on any of them)

Shame I cannot set the "message alert" tone though. GRRRR.

Thanks,

I sent muppet an email, hopefully he'll be able to help me out. If it's just a firmware issue why can't someone from Vodafone just leak it?

I wish I had researched local v800's a bit more, there was no way that I was going to put up with polyphonic ringtones on a 3g phone!

I don't see why companies lock the message alerts. I have had to put up with the Sony Ericsson preset ones for my last 4 phones.

Because leaking tends to be frowned apon by the company which the leak originated. Usually results in loss of job, legal action and various other fun things.

I can understand someone taking the moral high ground on leaking in general. But I don't think this is comparable to game/music piracy.

I want the firmware to give Vodafone MORE money.

If you can help me out send me an email.

There are copyrights issues involved. Perhaps Vodafone doesn't have a licence for the software to play MP3? Perhaps the recording industry has an agreement with the operator to prevent people copying song tracks to mobile phones without control?

Who knows?

Please don't ask for software that may breach copyright in these forums.

Vodafone must have changed the lastest firmware release due to getting flak over this and the k700i Voda model not allowing the mp3 thing.

And most stores have no clue anyway so you would have got the "it does not work" info from them all.

(Sony ericsson have only just realized this!!! The k750 has this fixed, let's hope this is finally fixed in a future firmware for the v800.

To understand why you can't set downloaded tracks to ringtones is DRM. See the other forums, this is a sticky topic, I suggest you stick to ripping your own CD's and following instructions in my personalisation 3g post

http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?ForumId=31&TopicId=4661

Use "audiograbber" to convert your CD's to mp3.
