A end is the calling party, and B end is the called party.

B end was the phone connected to the phone/fax socket, and the A end was another phone E.g. mobile or other landline.

Hi everybody.

Currently I live in Ireland, where I use the same modem (HG 556a) as described here, which was handed to me by Vodafone Ireland.

I tried to configure VoIP connection according to my own settings, which are similar ( I have only different sip provider called plfon).

My Vodafone service was sold to me as a bundle: broadband and phone. Before I started to configure voip options in router I had landline working in both phone sockets.

After filling options for SIP1, landline stopped to work in socket A (fax/phone) but it still works in second socket. Frankly speaking I don't care for landline (this service is free and I don't need it).

Problem is, I cannot enable (tick) box Active SIP Account. Of course, I did telnet with command 'voice set all enable' as described in this topic. This doesn't work for me.

What can I do more? Any ideas how to unlock sip in this modem?
do you think the landline which still works on my modem makes this problem.
Would this modem share one phone socket for sip and second for landline? But as I said I prefer sip than landline. I appreciate any help.

BTW: Before start, I upgraded this modem to latest firmware dated end of January 2011- maybe this is the reason why forum hack doesn't work for me.

If you read through the thread there is a post which tells you how to telnet to the router and change it so you can tick the box.  Have you tried that?

Which is the firmware update you mean and where did you get it from?

As I wrote: I read all posts in the thread and yes I've tried that command in telnet as was described. Everything went fine but it doesn't work for me. And I don't know why.

Vodafone help desk said that sip cannot be enabled in this router. Surprised

Firmware was downloaded from the link provided in this thread in version B025

paulspain: Try the settings below (leave everthing else at factory defaults). As you can see it's very basic :

'Voice' Tab
- 'SIP' sub-menu
- 'SIP Server' section
- SIP Proxy Server Address: 2talk.co.nz
- SIP Registrar Server Address: 2talk.co.nz
- SIP Service Domain: 2talk.co.nz
- 'SIP User' section
- SIP ID: (your 2talk phone number)
- User Name: (your 2talk phone number)
- Password: (your 2talk password)

I trust that works for you.

I have tried these settings and the free talk2 number is working! The only difference is that I had to plug the phone into the phone/fax port and after you have saved all the settings, do a save/reboot.

VOIP is working flawlessly on this router for me. But I've had some reliability issues with it - are others finding it stable? Or do you have to reboot it every now and then?

I'll test it over the next few days and let you know.

Outbound and incoming calls are working perfectly at the moment.

Tried what easyserve advised:

When I Telnet the command "voice set all enable" I get a confirmation: "Operation succeeds, and will take effect after save and reboot."

I do save and reboot, but it has no effect. When I query the status  with the "voice show" command I see my 2Talk account is still unregistered, and on the interface there is no tick in the "Active SIP Account" tickbox.

I have triple checked my 2Talk account number and password. I have triple checked I have all these set in the modem as per the directions here.

Anything else I could be doing wrong?

Solved it!

Needed to put my 2Talk number into the SIP ID fiedld, and then remove the "@vodafone.co.nz" domain which automatically filled itself in, in the Usrename field.

Re-did the Terminal commands, and save / rebooted again. Then it worked.

We don't use our phone very frequently, but I've had less complaints from the one that holds the purse strings! So for me, reliability has seemed to have improved. Have had it running for a fortnight now (I think) with 1 reboot.

Still can't enable Voip in my box.

Can anyone confirm which firmware do you use with voip enabled routers. It can be read in Box Summary on first page after login
.
Mine reads V100R001C08B026. Few days ago I updated my box from link in first post in this thread. Don't know - maybe I shouldn't and now I'm having troubles with voip.

Mine has the numbers 29 at the end.So presumably it's version V100R001C08B029, but I'm not home to verify all characters. Looks like that link doesn't have the current version. mine came with the 29 version.

Hi All,

I attempting to setup a VOIPstunt account. It seems be working but whenever I dial I get a fast busy  tone.

Anyone else had any experience with VOIPstunt accounts?

They require DTMF to sent inband
