Hi, I currently run some M2M applications in Australia using SIM cards that have static IP addresses. We are expanding to NZ and I need to know if these are available by any suppliers or if anyone has had any success.
Alternatively i could run Dynamic DNS however in Australia some of the APNs resolve to the mobile tower NAT and not an internet IP. Anyone know what the deal is with some NZ providers and their APNs.
By default you'll get a NATed connection, but you can change the APN to direct (for Vodafone and 2degrees) or direct.telecom.co.nz (for Telecom) to get a public dynamic IP.
I work for SnapperNet providing Tech Support for DrayTek modem/routers, Edge-core switches, Mobotix high-res IP cameras, QNAP network storage, Yeastar IP PBXs & more. Anything I say is my own opinion and not necessarily that of Snapper Network Distributors
I have spent some time on this recently. Have a remote box we use to get to site PLC's that uses a telecom sim on direct APN using Dyn to find (works really well). Wanted to do the same with Vodafone for a specific customer where coverage was better, but found that Vodafone firewalls inbound traffic (even on direct...). Unless you have a device that will initiate the communication, cant get in. Corporate plan sounds ideal, but I am sure comes at a cost....
