gchiu: Sadly not working. I get a message that call can not complete as dialled.

Dunno if this is relevant but when I created the route, it insisted I needed a dial pattern so I just made up a few like this

02ZNNNNNNN
0[3469]NXXXXXX
NXXXXXX

These aren't valid. You just need a simple route with X.

You'll then need to work on dialplans for the phones, the default ones are horrible and will restrict some calls along with a long timeout period after dialling the number unless you press #

I don't think I've done anything ( except to install a fix for kernel warnings from Centos 6.2 in grub.conf as per http://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=5371 ), and now it won't even register with plus.2talk.co.nz timing out all the time :(

Ok, I had to re-enable the port forwarding on 5060 otherwise I could not register.

Close .. to giving up! lol

I installed the 3CX soft phone, and can connect directly to 2talk server and call.  If I switch to the asterisk server, it registers, but I get an error that my calls can not be completed as dialled.  The asterisk debug log shows the number I called ( I don't need a 1 to get the outside line ) but is not offering any explanations.  The softphone can call the SPA303 phone on extension 1000, but the SPA303 won't let me call the softphone on 1001.

Maybe I corrupted something earlier on, and need to reinstall ...

Ok, made more random changes

My 2talk route has a dial plan of 1|.

Trunk name - 2talk

host=27.111.14.65
username=028xxxxxxx
secret=********
type=peer
context=from-sipout
canreinvite=no
qualify=yes
disallow=all
allow=ilbc&gsm&alaw&ulaw
insecure=invite,port
register=no

User-context: from-sipout

username=028xxxxxxx
type=peer
secret=********
insecure=invite,port
host=27.111.14.65

and now my softphone can dial out!  So, 1 and then the number to dial :)

No idea what setting in the above made things work this far!

The spa303, my principal interest, just gives me a hung up tone when I try to dial anything ... so more work to do on this.  Maybe it's the 303's internal dial plan I need to fix.

I had this dial plan from C-talk's site for the spa303

(0[2-9][2-9]xxxxxx|[2-9]xxxxxx|020x.|021x.|0508x.|0800x.|022x.|027x.|028x.|029x.|00x.|1xx|2xx|01x|*x.)

which works for 2talk directly (I think), but doesn't work for asterisk.  I added a 1 at the front viz:

1(0[2-9][2-9]xxxxxx|[2-9]xxxxxx|020x.|021x.|0508x.|0800x.|022x.|027x.|028x.|029x.|00x.|1xx|2xx|01x|*x.)

and now I can call national numbers, but not 021 numbers, and I can't call the extensions 100n

The above dialplan can't work because it's not valid for a 1 predigit across all numbers.

Why have you chosen to use 1 as a predigit rather than my solution above which removes the need for a predigit?

Was working with what works. Ok, now switched from 1|. to |X. and now my spa303 can now dial out. But it can't dial the extension 1001 ie. it tries to dial on the 100

Switching to 3 digit extensions has "solved" that issue.

I wonder if I have to port forward 5060 because I have an original firmware wrt54g

short term you may get away with port forwarding as you are only playing but long term get a router that does full cone NAT or similar if you are going to do this sort of thing long term.

keep persevering with this as you cant get any better (free) hands on telephony / network experience than what you are doing. lucky for you i guess is that you don't also have PCI cards or cisco 79XX series phones as well to learn about.

That's because your SPA303 dialplan won't allow dialling 4 digit numbers.

I have a spare VFX number that I have now asked to be used on the Open VFX so can see if I can get that working on my asterisk. Hopefully it won't be that different to get working. I will then be able to test incoming calls. 028 numbers are a bit expensive just for testing.

So, if I can configure this, will it mean I can have one trunk with VFX, and one with 2talk, and the different lines on the phones can be allocated to each, or I can use a dialing plan to select the trunk I want?

If you want each phone to be able to call out of different trunks you're going to have to use custom contexts for each to restrict trunk access to the speific trunk you want.

A basic dialplan will allow specific calls to be routed via a specific trunk.

Sounds complicated.

In the meantime I have disabled the 2talk trunk and added a Vfx one.  I can now call out on the vfx line, but if I try to call it, it says the number is not in service.  This is a message from vfx and not asterisk (  that TV personality's voice ), and so I wonder if this is a NAT issue.
