Hi all, Installing an Asterisk server for a client and they have decided to be a pain and want to retain their POTS line 'for backup'. I have worked on a system with a Digium card in it before and that seemed to work well. To save this guy money though I thought I might as well just go for the Atcom card as it is a third of the price of the Digium equivalent - maybe a bad decision. I can't get anything to work through it though! I am wondering if Asterisk 1.8 even supports it? I would really like to stick with Asterisk 1.8 and FreePBX and not be forced to use a lower version, or Trixbox. As far as I can tell it isn't even creating config files so maybe I am not creating the right kind of trunk. I have created a ZAP trunk. Get the same result when creating a DAHDi trunk too. Any help much appreciated. Thanks, Sam EDIT: Have tried in Asterisk 1.6 and FreePBX 2.7 and same deal. Empty config files.

Hi Sam, The cards aren't plug and play - you need to run some commands to configure them. Been a while since I've last done one, but I THINK the only command you need to run (from the root command line) is: dahdi_genconfThen reboot, add your DAHDI trunk again and should work. Why not go for a VoIP gateway with an FXO port? That'd be easier to implement, and even the IP phones could use it if the Asterisk box went down for any reason, as a fallback position. Or just stick a phone on it :) simpler and less prone to fail...

Thanks heaps Phil! That link is exactly what I couldn't find. So I should be creating DAHDi trunks and not ZAP? And yes, after I bought the card thought it would be so much easier to use a gateway. But overall this will be a bit tidier so I will just deal with it. PS Phil - This is Sam from Contel. This system is for Les Johansen who you will be providing the SIP trunks for. Will be in touch when we are ready for porting.

You have to configure the DAHDI settings first, which is detailed above. A PCI card isn't the best option for failover either. Unless you've got proper DNS configuration in place to avoid the infamous Asterisk DNS issue your phones will all go down anyway during an internet outage as the PBX has a meltdown, and if the PBX itself fails users will still have no automatic failover analogue fallback. A SPA3102 is a good workaround in that it offers SIP integration and also lets you plug an analogue phone that has automatic failover to the POTS line. *Need help configuring your Linksys ATA or IP Phones for New Zealand? If I set the DNS servers in resovle.conf rather than obtaining them automatically does that rectify the issue? Or are there other issues with that?

Just use IP addresses instead of DNS, works for me. Now on Slingshot Better Network and it's better.
