Thanks for the input everyone.

I generally agree with the idea that fax is obsolete which is why we moved to scan/pdf some time ago ourselves, but because it is entrenched we still have to support it both ways for communication outside the organisation.

Regarding fax over voip specifically - I am really just after a centralised fax to email service which removes the need of a local phone lines at each office. Basically the BizFAX type device that supports 10 numbers with separate routing for each number (and preferably without administering it ourselves... but I will look at bizfax).

Regarding compatibility - over the years we have had many issues with general fax machine (in)compatibility on PSTN anyway, especially when receiving faxes from fax advantage and the like. I don't have a big problem if it doesn't work, but like I say, it is a problem if the sender thinks it worked but we didn't receive it.

cameronbeattie: We run our own infrastructure for voice, chat and other services we provide. For fax we decided to use other providers (including 2talk) rather than build our own because we see it as a technology that’s reducing in use over time.

If you experience issues there are certain troubleshooting steps that we take and if necessary we can escalate it. We do have a lot of customers using fax (particularly in real estate and legal) so we’re generally able to identify and resolve issues with the help of the carrier where necessary.

Sorry we were slow to reply.

Thanks, I got the same via email.

I have generally had very few issues that I am aware of with 2talk, the one issue I had though I not able to get support for which was my only real issue.

richms: 98% would be being generous. 50% is closer to the sucessrate I have had with a standard fax machine on a t38 supporting ATA on 2talk. Often get only one page working issues, only works at 9600. Just hopeless.

Well I don't use 2talk, and have plenty of business customers using it on a daily basis.
