Hi.

It would appear that my Linksys SPA2102 ATA has stopped working. Over the past week we started hearing some cyclic noises on our phone and noticed that the noise was in sync with the power led on the ATA, which was flashing green.

Last night to troubleshoot it I unplugged the power supply and reconnected it after a few minutes. The power led then started to vary between different states of solid red, flashing red, flashing green and solid green. It kept going through this process intermittently, which naturally disconnected calls or did not pass through calls. I left it disconnected overnight and today I get no activity on the ATA, i.e. no power light.

I've measured the voltage on the power supply and as expected it shows 5v.

I'm assuming the ATA is dead.

I'm currently using a softphone on my android phone to receive VOIP calls.

Can anybody recommend another model ATA under $120? I was looking at SPA122 but a search on these forums indicated firmware issues.

Regards
Harry

If you just want an ATA then get the SPA112 and don't bother with the 122. The routing throughput is fairly sub-standard from what I have heard.

Firmware is fixed as long as you update to the latest version. I think is is 1.2.0

I'd try a replacement power supply first. The older Linksys devices have a habit of these dying from old age. Even with 5v showing at the output, it may not be able to supply the expected current draw, or have too much ripple.

Both good suggestions. If a replacement PSU doesn't work then the SPA112 (or SPA122 if you need it) is a good replacement.

A replacement power supply has fixed this. Thanks for the advice.

Good to hear you're rocking.

The 1xx firmware is still being worked on as far as I'm aware. The Cisco list is still very active about the products, however having said that, the current production version doesn't seem to be presenting to many issues.

I agree with the guys who said a 112 unless you really need to pass thru the unit (and I wouldn't suggest routing, while it is better than the 2102 as a router, I've still found them to be average.

I suggest that you 2102 will die eventually, as does any device, but the 1xx series is a migration path and my personal impression is that Cisco do have a reasonable commitment to the product so I wouldn't be scared off by the initial firmware issues.

I had this happen on saturday and a replacement PSU did not fix the problem.
I replaced my SPA2102 with the SPA112
I have had issues with calles not coming in and Xnet said that you need to do port forwarding to make the SPA112 reliable.
Ports I was asked to create rules for5060 - 5065, 8060 - 8065, 35384 - 37384
You need to give the SPA112 a static ip on your network.

I will know in a day or two if this works.

Cheers
John

You shouldnt need port forwards just to register your line. I had issues with my firewall blocking stuff when registering with vfx but definately no port forwards.
