All of a sudden ( 2 days  ago ) we stopped being able to ring out ..incoming calls are fine .

I've found another thread with the same problem but to be honest I just can't understand the discussion ! ( asterix ... pings ..DOH )

We're with italk & using a cisco spa 122 - it's worked just fine since initial teething probs ( where we ended up updating firmware on it ..problem solved )

This is a mystery because it's come from nowhere and we've changed nothing , it just stopped making outgoing calls ( gets a busy signal ).

I have a geeky friend coming to visit in about a week, so can hang in until they get here , however, if there is something 'easy' I can do to fix it in the meantime ...that would be nice.

( I know, I KNOW...I shouldn't even be allowed NEAR a computer or voip set up !!)

Ok... just in case there's someone out there .

I've done a reset to factory default...then a firmware upgrade ( cisco spa122 ) ... after doing that it wouldn't work at all, so i've gone back to saved version, which is the one that can receive but not make calls .

I've taken the advice on this page ...http://www.geekzone.co.nz/sbiddle/7208 ...but it didn't make any diff

I've reset and rebooted and reset and rebooted

The problem started when I tried to make a call with caller id blocked and pressed *67 before dialling - ever since that call, I can't make outbound calls
I'm at the end of my wits ...just about ...

maybe my ATA is buggered and I should just buy a new one ?

try making a call with their softphone and then you will know if the problem is local (on your ATA) or a network problem.

so the problem is not at your end then.
You either need to log into the management portal and see if there is some setting there that needs to be changed or log a support request to have things looked at.

Slingshot reckons the prob is at my end .

I have a geeky friend calling in later -  ( hopefully !! ) will get him to look ...I feel like I've just been on an astrophysics course doing this :)

slingshot support for italk is pretty shoddy. Most helpdesk staff don't know much about it.
When I was an italk customer a few years ago I always had to get my call escalated past the first line help desk staff to get someone who knew anything.

The fact that the softphone also can't make outgoing calls would suggest that the problem probably isn't at your end (because there isn't too much you can change on that softphone).
The only other thing that it could be from your end is if you have changed some setting from the web portal.

edit: You could also try asking for help in the Slingshot area of the geekzone forums and see if anybody from slingshot is able to help out.

OK, thanks for those tips .

SS haven't been too bad , it's been 3-4 days of s-l-o-w emails  back and forth altho i'm still confused that they said straight away that it was their problem, after looking at it on the first day I contacted them and then they almost seemed to want to be rid of it - or put it in the too hard basket.

To give them credit though, they've kept replying to my emails .

Will take a look at yr suggested tips ...it is getting frustrating not being able to ring out ... just hope we don't have a fire !!

Problem is a 2 second fix. Presumably you're trying to dial *67 but haven't configured correctly reconfigured the vertical service activation codes.

It really is another classic example of why VoIP providers should auto provision devices.

I'm not trying to ring *67  ,  about 2 weeks ago someone here made a call and entered *67 ( block caller id ) before they dialled the number - it went straight to 'engaged/ busy  "..we didn't think much of it , until we noticed that every number was 'busy '.

Ever since that call we've not been able to call out .
I have wondered if they didn't somehow "block all outgoing calls " but I can't see that as an option on the SS Italk page

A friend bought over his ATA last night  ( configured with his  iTalk account )    he plugged  it into our network and it worked immediately - he could ring out etc.  So we figure the  network / router settings are OK. ...but SS just keep telling me to check them again .

As I said above your problem is your vertical service activation codes.

If you don't understand how to configure your device you should move to a provider that will auto provision your hardware.

I don't want to sound rude but despite helping lots of people on here I refuse to provide detailed technical support for iTalk users. I'd get at least one email a week from iTalk users emailing me via my blog wanting help with stuff because iTalk can't provide support for a VoIP product they offer.

I missed the part about the problems starting after dialing *67

Here are the vert service codes which are auto-provisioned by 2talk.
I would guess that italk should be the same or similar

You'd be looking specifically at the CID stuff

I don't really understand it and haven't used the cid block feature - but have you tried dialing *68 to deactivate (no idea if that actually does anything or not)

You need to decide if you're going to used the vertical service codes to perform a feature or pass this feature code through to the VoIP provider. There are pros and cons to both methods depending on exactly what you're wanting to do.

Well, I guess if they're going to be a PITA i'll just have to not use them .

I did try doing the *68 ( or whatever it was ) straight away... it didn't help

Funnily enough...today it started working again .. could call out. Then about 5 hours later it stopped working .Now it's working again.

We sent an email to SS last night asking if they would just do the decent thing and give us another account/line/ whatEVER - something t hat actually WORKS. NO reply .
Then it started working again, so I emailed and said ( stupidly) " it's fixed " , Straight away I got a reply saying how nice that was ( to paraphrase) and "any more problems, don't hesitate to call us ".

Then it stopped .

OK... going NUTS now .

I do a factory default restore ...enter all the correct settings

I can ring out for 2-3 calls.

Then it goes back to not being able to ring out .

I'm close to pulling the * button off the phone , so scared am I that it's causing our problems

Anyway, just reporting back really . Will keep muddling along and resisting the urge to ring SS and SCREAM !

Over and OUT
