at least i dont have to install another client to be logged in

might finally get those last few dweebs moving off MSN messenger - they'll use jabber now that it's got shiny google branding - go figure.

And if you signup for Google Talk u get additional MB space in your gmail account i.e. from 1GB to 2526 MB.

Gmail already had extended storage of approx 2.5GB and growing before the IM solution came along...

I had > 2Gb before... and what do you mean by sign up? I've had a gmail account since the year dot - but i signed into google's jabber server for the first time on Tuesday, using my old gmail account.

If you are invited to Google Talk and don't have a GMAIL account then you will receive an invitation automatically...

I think you can also sign up for gmail out of the blue now with no invite, as long as you are in the US with a mobile phone to recieve a confirmation code....

i just tried to register a new gmail identity using gaim to the jabber server.
it worked, and i can now log into gmail with my new identity.
