nate:
traderstu: I am new to VOIP and have been trialling 2talk over the last week. Voice seems to be good as gold, no problems with quality or setup. I am having problems with fax however. I have followed all the instructions but can neither send nor receive. My ISP is wireless, and I have read the comment somewhere that it is virtually impossible to setup fax with VOIP over satellite or wireless. Is this true? If so, I wont waste any more time on it.

Give up on fax.  Unless it's 100% necessary most businesses now can get away with scan to email.

Depends on your custmers i guess.  We still get most of our customers ordering stuff by fax.  Scan and email seems foreign to them.  pity though as it's a way better way to go..

When looking at VOIP quality, does the codec choice only come into play when using an analogue setup?

Also, is quality only as good as your weakest link? In other words, if you're running your environment with 722, but there is one piece in the chain that only supports g729/g711, will that be what you get?

And then in that case, is it worth going with someone that supports the highest codec?

I have been trialling 2talk, and found when I changed the codec priorities, 711 sounded MUCH better vs 729. Have got 722 available, but understand from this that 2talk doesn't support it in my setup.

Have used extensively in the past and found excellent call quality via VF Red Network ADSL.

Also use the fax to email feature quite extensively - we don't readily have scan to email at work so I can fax to one of my 2talk numbers and receive document in email - works very well.

Have plan, send $NZD50m

+1  I only use 711a.

Chews data like a cow chewing grass, but I really don't care.  At $2/gb the amount of data I chew is nothing compared to the $45 - $55 dollar saving on having a POTS service from either of the two carriers in my area (with the additional 'smart phone' services I enjoy).

In fairness to 2talk, I feel I should update this post. I have now followed the instructions a bit better and can now receive faxes no problem. Because I enjoy a bit of a challenge I am going to persevere with sending and see if I can get that working. To be honest, I am finding the faxmail option really good. With a bit of organisation (eg I have a dedicated folder in my outlook contacts for fax numbers) it is just as quick as normal faxing for sending, and you don't waste paper when you are receving.

Noig: Hi Owen
I have been with 2talk for about a year and half. Call quality has been ok and the system has been running smothely for allmost all the time.
Only one drawback so far has been the slow response to any tech matters.

Just to play devils advocate here, as this is your first post and you have no history here, how do we trust you.
How does this post differ from someone trying to spam me.

Come on, at least get involved in the conversation before trying to sell your products to us.

Hey David

We have provided occasional support to 2Talk customers for the last 12 months or so. You are correct that was my 1st post here. Generally it only takes 5 or so minutes to deal with a typical 2Talk support call and we don't charge for that therefore no scam. We (KiwiVoIP) have used 2Talk for nearly 2 years and we have developed a good working relationship with them. In return for our support helpp 2Talk hand on to us any enquiries they may receive for business telephone systems

Apart from that we sell and install 3CX IP PBX phone systems through out NZ. You are welcome to give me a call on 0800 89 13 10 and we can provide you with references

PhilipH: I guess there are 2 points.

- the customer of 2talk should go to 2talk for support. If they (2talk) cannot give support for whatever problems the customer of 2talk is having with their service does this show something about 2talk? Why is a 3rd party (a reseller of 2talk's service) have to do the support for free.

- Your 1st couple of posts on geekzone where blatant commercial posts and then you go on the defensive after someone complains.

Only after 1000+ posts on here you are trusted :^) Maybe you want to post an introduction about yourself in the Introductions section.

Firstly we don't have to help 2Talk, quite simply we like the 2Talk product and pricing. Secondly we noticed a number of posts here complaining about 2Talk's support service I simply thought we may be able to help. Yes, of course it's good PR for us. Clearly I'm wrong.

I will never get to 1,000 posts therefore presumably I will never be trusted on Geekzone so I wont waste anyones time. Chucks toys out of cot and goes away

Philip, all we are trying to say is to do things in the right order, introduce yourself, make us feel like we have a reason to listen to you.

As you can see above, AndrewTD only has 199 posts and he is trusted, it is not hard to become trusted, you just need to be personable, and put some effort into the forums.

If you want to use Geekzone as an advertising medium without taking the time to build rapport then you should buy an ad like everyone else.

We don't mean to be harsh, I just urge you to look at it from out point of view.
