So word's hitting the wire that GVoice is coming to NZ as we speak. Has anyone got their hands on it yet? Whats the feature set like? I'm curious to see if the SMS/Call Routing stuff is being launched in the NZ product

I tried to call my mobile (027 number ported to 2d) from GVoice in-browser - it rung for 25 seconds before my phone even started ringing! But im sure/hope they will up their game soon.

The google voice android app wouldnt work for me - got stuck on the 'verifying your phone number' stage

Kinda seems like its a semi launch of Google Voice, i.e, the gmail voice feature, rather than the whole Google Voice service with android etc. Because I'm sure that would have created a little more buzz.

http://www.google.com/voice/ still gives a "not available in your country" message for me. Hopefully it'll be working "properly" soon so I can give it a go :)

Just downloaded the app from the us itunes store. Tells me my account is not subscribed, despite me being able to bring it up in a browser...

Interesting that on the whats new in Google Voice page

http://www.google.com/googlevoice/whatsnew.html#utm_source=inbox_link&utm_medium=WhatsNew&utm_campaign=cleanup

The gmail calling is noted separately, presumably as a previous poster noted, this isn't the full monty.

So, Google Voice NZ is only web calling and app calling? Does it include any of the other services, like number porting, incoming number, number redirection, voice mail, etc?

I don't think so. I also tried the android app last night and got stuck at verifying the number stage. I assume this is where they would send a message to the phone or something to verify, and I guess NZ numbers arent supported.

I think the change is that we can now phone NZ landlines and mobiles from the Call Phone function in GMail.

You can only get a Google Voice account activated if they can verify a genuine US phone number as your alternate number.  There are a few people who have been able to do that via family and friends.

I tried calling NZ numbers from my GMail and it worked fine.  20 cents / minute for mobile and 2 cents minute for landlines. I had already set it up for the international calling they had enabled a while back and had $10 in the account.

It sounds like you're supposed to be able to sign up from other countries though; the existence of GBP/EUR/CAD payment options seems to confirm that.

On the NZ PCWorld blog

"Update 3:47pm: The NZ version of Google Voice isn't as fully-featured as the US one. There is currently no SMS support, ability to have a number for incoming calls, or voicemail/call forwarding. PC World has asked Google's Australia office when these features will be enabled. "

Yea, me too. I just looked at my call records, my first call I made was 26/08/10

So I've had this for ages.  It's really nothing special at all.
