Topic # 98700 4-Mar-2012 21:02 Send private message

Subject says it all (well, most of it), I have an older Draytek Vigor 2800VG (off Trademe :-) that I'd like to replace my current Linksys PAP2NA with, but I can't get SIP working with it.  Exactly the same parameters (server/userID/password) work with the Linksys and two different soft-phones I've tried, but not the Vigor.  The VoIP provider is Worldnet, in case that makes any difference.  The web interface isn't terribly useful, the CLI gives me the following debug info (with some bits x'd out):

-->Send Message to 202.169.198.11:5060
REGISTER sip:auckland.worldnet.co.nz SIP/2.0
Via: SIP/2.0/UDP 14.1.69.169:5060;branch=xxxxxxxx;rport
From: xxxxxxxx ;tag=ocR-29418
To:
Call-ID: qse-11948@14.1.69.169
CSeq: 100 REGISTER
Contact:
Max-Forwards: 70
Expires: 600
User-Agent: DrayTek UA-1.2.3 Vigor2800 series
Content-Length: 0

but not what the response (or, in general, problem) is.

Unfortunately that information doesn't state what issue you are actually having.

Uh, yeah, if I knew what the problem was I could fix it myself :-).  I was hoping someone here who'd done SIP with a Draytek before could offer some suggestions on what bits to poke.

It also seems that the site is mangling the pasted text, here's another attempt:

You still haven't really described the symptoms Tongue Out  Is the device not registering at all?

I haven't used a 2800, they're way before my time. But could you provide a screenshot of the SIP configuration on it?

Does it have an option to do a Syslog? That might help too :)

Finally got it to provide a bit more info by more or less random tweaking of options... the logging is pretty erratic (either that or the SIP implementation is erratic), with some changes of options it doesn't try to register at all, or only logs some messages.  Here's the best exchange I've been able to get, by setting a (bogus) "act as local proxy" option:

So it looks like it's registering successfully, but it isn't recorded as having registered.

After way too much extra time messing around with this, I've gone back to my older 2700, which doesn't have the VoIP, USB print port, or WiFi (sigh), but at least it works properly.

Anyone want a Draytek 2800VG, with slightly buggered VoIP (AFAICT)?  Price to be negotiated (you can have it on try-first pay later if you're in Auckland and want to pick it up).

2700 is newer than 2800 ;)

In fact, the 2700 was still being sold last year, whereas the 2800 was EOL'd 4 years ago.

This is the older model of the 2700, not the newer War-of-the-Worlds looking one.

You mean the 2700e? They aren't new/old models, the e means "economy version" i.e. stripped down to a basic home router Laughing

2700e and 2800 were same generation, so equivalently ancient Tongue Out

After further testing it turns out the VoIP fuctionality is fine, it works OK with IPTel, it's just WorldNet's SIP that it won't register to. Buggrit buggrit buggrit buggrem.
