Anyone else experiencing VERY poor international speeds on TelstraClear cable the past 2 nights?

Normally I get good speeds 4-15mb

Tonight and last night is crap.

Yes,I Administer a large forum with it's servers in the UK, it has been a pain. And yes I am used the often mentioned proxies.

Slow on ADSL also.
I usually stream news video from nos.nl with no problems, impossible tonight.
Many other international sites very sluggish too.

I just moved over from telecom and wish I didnt!

It has been so slow and Youtube will load about 4 sec then sit for about 5 mins thinking about loading the rest.
I did a speed test the other night and got 11mbps however it would not load youtube clips. Its now bringing back 1.4mbps or worse.

Anyone know what is going on? I called but it was after hours.

I'm sure it's been longer than the past couple of nights.  Something is definitely going on with the international link.  I do remote work for a company in London and I've seen the latency fluctuate up around 400-700ms and I can't do a thing on my machines in the London office. 
I've been working fine for the past 5 years until last week.

You mean these DNS addresses?

203.97.78.43 and 203.97.78.44.

These have been loaded in my router (DLink DIR 655) since the middle of last year, but You Tube has been crap for the last two - three weeks for me. (Central Wellington, Cable, 60GB lightspeed plan)

When trying to view You Tube video's they either dont start at all, try to start and fail with the You Tube !, start and stop continuously with the spinner, but the load bar not advancing at all. Also the play bar is often faster than the load bar and stalls the video.

Some of the download speeds for videos are little better than dial up speed. 10 - 40 Kbps in stead of the usual 300 - 500 Kbps.

Running the You Tube Speed test shows in the last month (20/03/2012 to 17/04/2012) my You Tube average streaming speed has been 3.39 Mbps compared the the average speed for Telstra Clear, Wellington, NZL, and Global being 5.5 - 6 Mbps.

This is using IE9, FF, and Google Chrome (all lastest versions) and on three seperate computers running Windows 7, and signed in to my You Tube account.

It's quicker to download the videos and watch them offline rather than trying to watch them online at the moment.

All other Internet access is fine, with the expected speeds for downloads, accessing other websites, etc.

Naa there is something wrong with Telstra Clears You Tube set up....

Yeah I know, I should call the help desk, but after 10+ years of Telstra Clear claiming they would fix the totally CRAP service from the help desk (waiting 40 - 60 minutes to have your call answered, and getting the robotic help desk script kiddies INSIST that the only way to fix the problem is to send a technician in 4 - 7 working days only for them to say there is no problem with your modem, cable connection, it's at the Telstra Clear end) rules that out as any sort of solution.

Hopefully someone from Telstra Clear will read this and get the You Tube problem fixed.

My experience in Raumati is - TCL cable, 15Mbps connection, Chrome, Toshiba laptop running Win7, all updates - YouTube is running perfectly for nine out of ten clips, and just a very few sub-second freezes for the other ones.

If it's fine for me and bad for you - does this eliminate any systemic problems within the TCL infrastructure?

I use the same DNS and have no problems with YouTube. Are you sure the PC is getting the DNS from the router and nothing is locally configured?

I'm on TC cable in the Hutt Valley and had no problems the past few weeks.  I also have the DIR-655 and YouTube and download speeds were all fine.

The computers are set to obtain the DNS Server address and IP address automatically from the router.

No IP address or DNS address is set or shown in the computer network/internet settings.

The router has the DHCP enabled and assigns the computers a specific IP address in the 192.168.0.190 - 199 range. I have set the router to give each computer/device the same IP address every time they are started, and turned on MAC filtering to limit what computers/devices can conect to my network.

I have been checking my anti virus  (Avast Internet Security V7) to see if it is the cause, as I updated to V7 about 3 weeks ago. I have excluded You Tube.com from being scanned by avast, I'll see if that makes any difference (not ideal though...)

When I download You Tube videos I get the expected download speed, anything from 10 - 20 Mbits per second using a You Tube Video downloader programme, but viewing the video and it has all the problems described in the previous reply.

I'm in Whakatane (so using DSL) and have also had slow speeds, including YouTube, recently. I'm using the correct DNS servers. I posted another thread at the time but it had resolved itself by the morning. For some reason I never responded to my own thread when it happened again.

My connection is extremely slow as well

It shows download speed of 1.17 Mb connecting to a server in Wellington.
I am in Christchurch and I am using ADSL. My Modem shows a download speed of 17Mb

You shouldn't use the Wellington server on Speedtest because there's no direct peering. This means the packets travel a lot more to get to Wellington.

You can use TelstraClear speedtest or our own Geekzone server.

lol...  I was reading someone claiming their 100mbit service was doing 200mbit...

I just ran a few tests and I'm getting 26mbit on my 15mbit service according to that meter to both Chch and Wgtn servers... didn't bother testing Auckland.
