Hi I just joined TC and suggest if you have done that you report your experience here.
There is lots of bad feedback out there, and its typically human nature to shout if something is wrong but say nothing if its ok.
http://www.ispreviews.co.nz/reviews/view/telstra-clear/page:5
My contract is as follows:
TelstraClear start May 14th Contract.
All the following were confirmed prior to signup.
3 free months (no modem needed)
no connection/setup fees
data 40Gb
caller ID $4/month
No wiring maintenance
Able to use phone card
Big Back Yard applies

They expected connection delay about 5 days. The account is available on Clearnet immediately eg if you want to change your details or perhaps set up a .clear.net email address which was not very apparent how to do, but their email support was good.

Regardless of my experience I will report it here after connection is completed. My current speedtest shows the following:
dld 5.81 Mb/s ul .76Mb/s   this is with current ISP ICONZ.

My area is Waihi Beach; hoping its not going to be same badly effected as Tauranga who hopefully will have their problems sorted asap.

Kind regards,
Alistair.

Hi Tim.
Cheers for that. Hoping to be able to give a positive report later. Certainly there is no deal any better currently.

What would enhance your offer in the future is more 'unmetered' sights like Quickflix and so on similar to Slingshot.

Can you confirm new connections take about 5 days, and is there any area on our account we can view the connection progress. I was told that just prior to it being switched over an email would be sent.
Cheers,
Al.

I've been a TC customer for about a year now and have been very happy with the service. I hadn't heard of www.ispreviews.co.nz before but I've just added a comment there about TC because I hate to see lots of negative comments when I know that that isn't everyone's experience, could give people the wrong idea!

I too haven't heard of www.ispreviews.co.nz website. The problem here is that TC requires two categories to comment on. Cable network and non-cable network. You can't compare connection speeds between a dedicated cable line and old copper telecom lines.

I'll post a comment later from a cable network customer.

Thanks - I chose the wrong title for the thread - it should be DSL customers, as these are the ones being signed up on the $75 plan.

Oops. I meant on the reviews website. TC should be split into these two categories.

Did anyone read the post on page 2 "Added by Kevin A on Dec, 21 2011"
http://www.ispreviews.co.nz/reviews/view/telstra-clear/page:2

Its almost a novel, seems like even if the guy didnt have trouble he would be incredibly hard to deal with!

I have been with telstraclear(saturn etc) since the 128kbps cable days either through my parents having it while I lived with them, my flatmates and now myself.

Ive only really had 1 big problem when our set of flats did not have cable running down it so another company had to come and bore the lines but somewhere there was a mix up or lack of comunication and telstra were never informed the work had been done so I didnt get connected for around 2 months.

I am posting here because I am kind of a new customer - have just had the 100mbps service installed, had no real problems or atleast problems that were not due to my own settings or equipment.

What I dont understand is though, I hear of people having so many problems with customer service but when you look in the geekzone threads problems are generally fixed/sorted quickly and easily by Telstraclear reps in the forums, if only everyone knew to come here and have a cry when something is broken!

My partner has just started working for telstraclear on the phones for new and existing customer services - please go easy on her!

If you are going to change over to TC please do a speedtest.net and write it down to compare after you have been connected to your previous  ISP. Regards, Al.

TC has made up some very professional video tutorials here:

If you dont need the tutorials the hostess is quite nice anyway!

SMTP server settings - having a few SMTP problems so maybe someone can sort it here this is the info I have:
  • Incoming Mail (POP3) Server: pop.clear.net.nz (Use SSL, port: 110)
  • Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server: send.clear.net.nz (Use SSL, port: 25, use authentication)
  • Server does not require a secure connection (Make sure 'SSL is required' box is UNCHECKED)
  • Outgoing mail server does NOT require authentication
  • Your TelstraClear username (your email address without the "@clear.net.nz")
  • Email Address: Your TelstraClear email address (eg.  username@clear.net.nz )
  • Password: Your TelstraClear password

Using Thunderbird have settings as SSL/TLS, normal password.

Maybe its not enabled yet I dont know, but the POP mailbox is working.
Thanks,
Alistair.

ageorge: SMTP server settings

SMTP settings above:
Telstraclear support advise that until my line is switched over the SMTP server wont work.
Ive been notified that the shift is activated but:
We anticipate it will take an additional 1 - 24 hours before the service is active on your line.

Shouldn't that be smtp.clear.net.nz ? I'm on cable and use that server - shouldn't it be the same for DSL connections?

Well picked that was what I was using actually, but the key is that their support advises SMTP does not work till the churning/shift is completed.
Cheers,
Al
