Hi, I have had Telstra 100mb cable for a few months now and I'm disappointed. Sure I can get 100mb out of speedtest.net but that's no good to me. I understand that anything I download from overseas is never going to run much faster than about 10mbps and I am also happy with this. When I signed up I anticipated the best usage would be akamai stuff, which is where most of my downloads come from, so I thought it would work well. Unfortunately Akamai sucks. I am downloading a 3 GB ISO from Microsoft as we speak and tracert shows that I am downloading from 203.167.141.136 which is a Telstra IP and only 5 hops away. Even so, when downloading from the Telstra datacenter it would seem, I am only getting 68KBps. Seriously, I was disappointed when the download kicked off at 500KBPS, but 70? Really? I'm wondering what the point of this product is if I can't get faster than that from a mirror that is so close.

Oh and youtube at 720p buffers too. I thought that stuff was cached.

Do you have the correct TCL DNS settings? You're not using something like Google DNS or Open DNS? I am on the warpspeed and have issues with youtube still..usually I stay on the 400 odd setting rather than trying any higher. Maybe congestion is an issue?

Same question as Steve posted: are you using these TelstraClear DNS or some third party (OpenDNS, Google, etc)? However, when some random app installed Chrome on my laptop, I decided to try it for YouTube. No buffering at all - just perfect. I don't have the technical knowledge to understand why, but on my system - IE = YouTube buffering, Chrome = NO YouTube buffering.

I have just moved over to telstra cable due to us moving house. I'm disapointed with cable. Must say I was better off on ADSL2+ with Snap. Offense can never be given, only taken ...

For those changing ISPs make sure you use the correct DNS as linked above. YOU DO NOT GET THE DNS AUTOMATICALLY. On the other hand... YouTube works perfectly for me, torrents are fast as ever and download from iTunes are very speedy. However web browsing is getting to my nerves. Time for TelstraClear to push the cache farm turbo button... I am also having trouble. Youtube was terrible on telstra about a year ago but seemed to get better all of a sudden,so then i got Warpspeed a couple of months ago and now all sorts of sites are taking ages to load and youtube is worse than before. I'm also getting 38KBps upstream as an average over about 20 speed tests. When the guy installed i made sure to ask him if my line looked good i.e. noise and stuff, he said it was sweet.

Check my other discussion about routes and transparent proxy. I believe something happened in the last couple of weeks and TelstraClear got a problem with either/both their routes and proxy. sbiddle: Chrome doesn't use the Flash plugin when accessing YouTube. If you have an old version of Flash, incorrect settings or old video drivers mean it may not work properly. In Chrome if you go to: chrome://plugins/ and click on the + details on the right you can see what plugins are enabled. Chrome ships with it's own version of Flash called "pepper flash" that runs in a "secure" sandbox which it uses by default but can use other installed versions.

Hi Guys, Sorry for starting a thread and then abandoning it for a while. I have been using Telstra DNS servers - I assumed this would be implied by the Akamai only being 5 hops away and on a Telstra-looking IP. I will try the latest ones as per your post and continue to monitor things. For the record I have been using 203.97.33.14 and 203.97.37.14 as opposed to the 203.96.152 ones as I have found these to be more reliable.
