I have had Telstra 100mb cable for a few months now and I'm disappointed.
Sure I can get 100mb out of speedtest.net but that's no good to me. I understand that anything I download from overseas is never going to run much faster than about 10mbps and I am also happy with this. When I signed up I anticipated the best usage would be akamai stuff, which is where most of my downloads come from, so I thought it would work well.
Unfortunately Akamai sucks. I am downloading a 3 GB ISO from Microsoft as we speak and tracert shows that I am downloading from 220.127.116.11 which is a Telstra IP and only 5 hops away. Even so, when downloading from the Telstra datacenter it would seem, I am only getting 68KBps. Seriously, I was disappointed when the download kicked off at 500KBPS, but 70? Really?
I'm wondering what the point of this product is if I can't get faster than that from a mirror that is so close.
