Is the problem here that CloudFlare are just just announcing their ranges in the wrong direction? The more I look at this it would seem like a BGP issue with CloudeFlare but I'm no way any sort of BGP expert and know even less about CDN technology.

it's most likely just a simple peering problem in australia.  ultradns used to be screwed for new zealand too -- goign to hong kong (they host a lot of domains) and opendns used to be screwed too -- singapore, but some packet loss too.

that's insane?  is it generally considered ok to smokeping geekzone??  maybe i should try.  i checked out my smokeping of other sites, and google had high pings on monday night, but nothing like what you're experiencing.  you got a smokeping of google?
