... runs from the 1st of each month to the end of that month.  my bb contract is up apparently on the 1st of march.

i'm switching to another provider on the 28th of this month and will have paid my telstra bill in full, less any tolls, by then. i don't want to pay another month in advance to telstra or be billed for it, hence organising for the new provider to switch me over to them on the 28th.  i don't expect they'll actually get it done on the 28th ... but if they do, any chance telstra will ping me for an early contract termination for that one day difference?

A lot of things could go wrong. Why not wait for AFTER the contract is finished?

Since you are leaving and will nit use the email it is a good time to not get an ISP email address. Outlook and Gmail are free...

Hi Raine. Another of the team explained this for another customer is a recent thread. To avoid duplication I've linked to it here.

Cheers, Gary

I did that with Orcon and got billed for an extra month.  I've said it before, 30 day notice periods are a scam.

My suggestion is about waiting until the contract is finished then terminate, to avoid having to pay ETF. Paying a month in advance is another story.

I don't get why you'd have to pay another month in advance?

You'll get a bill for the 1st - 31st, but, then you'll receive a proration credit from the 2nd - 31st so in effect you would only pay for 1 day.

Unless TC billing doesn't prorate?

Generally computer systems are built precisely and if you quit one day early then the computer program doesn't really understand that you've fulfilled 99.9% of your contract so could let you off early termination. Programs just don't have that judgement and to do so would add to the cost of programming.

They will most likely make a credit available when the final bill comes in. The OP should worry not about a month in advance but about ending his service on the same month as the contract term ends.

As I said, wait for the contract term to end, then cancel/transfer the service without fear of ETFs. Any month in advance should be prorated, but he can confirm this when cancelling the service.
