chiefie: Cool cool... got the TelstraClear Digital TV service. And yes... what DMC said is correct, it's the el cheapo sibling of all other ADB digital decorder. Anyway... jedmeister, what does aquilatech said to you? do they actually have it in stock? I am very interested to get it here and would like to have it soonest if possible... can't handle multiple remotes anymore!!! (LOL) Oh, i also found out that there are some TV card that support DVB-T, is that what TelstraClear's Digital decoder classified as? what's the difference between the normal TV card that used to be so widely available, and today's digital tv card??? I got lost with these technology! DVB-T is digital terrestial TV (ie digital TV through a normal tv aerial not satellite). It doesn't yet exist in NZ but has been trialled in Auckland. It is very common in Europe, Australia and the UK and a receiver will cost as little as about NZ$100. Nothing seems to be happening fast in NZ. In regards to the cable modem issue, the cable modem rental is effectively built into your $199 installation fee. I have been told the modem is a different model to the existing Motorola Surfboards and cannot be used for the internet as it uses a different headend on the network. *Need help configuring your Linksys ATA or IP Phones for New Zealand? Hi Slightly off topic, has anyone here with the TelstraClear digital got it hooked up to a Hauppauge PVR-150. Mainly using the IrBlaster. I'm trying to figure out what code set it uses. Previously knows as psycik NextPVR Based HTPC: 2 x HVR3000 - DVB-S - Freeview, HVR3000 - DVB-T Freeview\|HD, Nova-T 500 - Dual Freeview\|HD, Digital Coax --> Yamaha RX-v540, 8600GT --> Samsung LA46A650D via HDMI Clients: Popcorn Hour A-100, 1xATV2, 1xATV3 Windows 7 Ultimate Host 4x2TB + 1x1.5TB using DriveBender, VMWare Server 2 with 1xW7, 2xW2k3 1xUbuntu 11.10 Desktop, 1xWHS2011, Plex

sbiddle. the modem is exactly the same as the cable modem. it is just using different ip address and gateway for the digital tv network communication (mainly for PPV). i have try using digital tv modem for internet connection... don't need to. sbiddle. mmmm personal PPV system... sounds good. but i doubt that's possible though. cos the signal has to be sent to sky/telstraclear to decode the signal to your card id. though. if one could generate the code signal for the card, the one could access PPV... genius! mmm now if only one could figure out the code signal for Rialto, and Asian channels and digital sky music channels... Just purchased the harmony 880 from ebay, for total (landed) cost of approx 292NZD. Now, just waiting for it to arrive. Aquilatech are still stuffing round with their eta dates too. Moving back to the main topic I too have been conned by TelstraClear into upgrading to the digital decoder. Apart from anything else the software in the box provides less functionality than offered by the old analogue decoder. I like to be able to strip record programmes - every week day, every specific day of the week, week end etc. The old box did it no trouble. This box requires every programme to be individually set. No match for the DVD/HD player (and if we had a SCART connection it would wake up when the decoder called - which regrettably this one will never do). I'm sure that fixing this aspect is just a matter of loading some different code. Couldn't work out who the twerp was that had made the decision to sell cheap and nasty for what is positioned as a premium product. Rang customer care and said I wanted to talk to the person how made this decision so I could give them a piece of my mind and talk about commercial reality in a (partially) competitive environment. No response for a few days. Rang again - no record of previous call in system. Repeated request. Still no response a week or so later. Ho hum.

I would be another one. My decoder was one of the really old General Instrument square ones. Even that had more functionality that this current box. My only advantage is the EPG data (whoopee ) , which is really flakey at best, and getting some sort of output out of the box other than an RF aerial. When I put it in and rung customer care to voice my concerns, I asked about switching back to the analogue system and was told that wasn't an option. I also had some problems with splitting the signal, but the solution to that was another decoder box. So how many of the 1500 subscribers that have converted (from todays Dom Post) are actually happy?? I wouldnt make a record or return a call on that basis either... I would only ring customer care to sort out a specific problem. To read a company their parentage, you should probably put pen to paper and fax or post or email your letter away. I agree about putting pen to paper. But with Telstra I have found they don't respond very well to Email question. So I'm not sure if a posted letter would give any better results. Actually I think it's a good test of how customer focused an organisation is. In this case TelstrClear have just spent heaps putting a new product out there and spend heaps on providing a call centre to mange customer relations. Not only do they not set up their customer care people so they can monitor how the product is going, they condone a situation where they don't even record negative feedback. What does this tell you about the management of the company? The consequence for TelstraClear is they end up in the situation where they have rolled out a new product designed to entice high end users and they get the negative publicity they did in InfoTech. They also end up with customers like me who spends perhaps $6K a year on their services thinking they are a second rate company and looking for the first chance to move away from them.

ok. I have joined the Flat TV society... just got 32" philips LCD tv... and yes. the picture is utterly crap on LCD with TC Digital TV... I think the MPEG2 compression is too high as it gets real pixelated on fast action. and while small/subtle movement is very clear and crisp. And this is not the doing of Philips's PixelPlus2 technology (Well partly i should say, because PixelPlus2 will try to enhanced the weak pixel definition, but it managed to bring out the poor pixelation of the digital signal carried by the decoder) Anyhow, I am wondering, whether it is possible to get the ADB higher model ourself and put it inplaced of the one supplied by TelstraClear? will that work? Or will there be a PCI cable tv decoder card? because I also got myself a MCE2005 PC...
