Ok we now have digital TV from TelstraClear/Saturn with mixed reviews and new cable plans.
Given what is on offer, I doubt muchly our flat will switch over to their cable network since some of the UBS plans on offer give much bigger data caps at a lower price.

Telecom forum has talk of the next generation network being built over their exisiting copperlines, etc, just wondering what Telstraclear might try to do next? esp since their fibre/coax network only reaches parts of Chch, Wellington and Kapiti.

Likely to be still pinning their hopes on full local loop unbundleing?

You got it - TC want LLU. I would rather see them continue to roll out their own network.

Hi,

I doubt telstra clear are going to invest 1.4 billion. I also highly doubt telecom will let telstra have access to this network. If they ever did they would make it so expensive telstra couldnt afford it.

Thats just my guess but you never know what deals go on behind closed doors. Things will be clearer when NGN is launched.

True they will be clearer. I recall last year that Telstra (Aus) were charging more for wholesale broadband than retail broadband. Go figure that one.

The great thing about Telecom's NG network is that it makes multiple providers extremely simply since it's fully IP anyway. Having your home phone with TCL could be as simple as plugging a TCL provided phone into your wall socket which uses their network settings instead of Telecom.
