Sorry, to be clear, by selecting either Lie to me or Survivor, we can watch Survivor but no sign of Lie to Me.

Is this recording the wrong channel a new problem? We just had it happen to us last night for the first time ever. I was watching Fashion Police on E! (a guilty pleasure) when my girls wanted to use the Wii so I recorded the programme that had just started. Sat down today to watch it and instead it had the fishing show on TV3. The planner says it's Fashion Police and I know 100% for sure that the T-Box was on channel 11 but it recorded channel 3. We've never had this problem before. A bit annoying that they tell me they are putting a fix through soon for certain problems and then I go and get a totally new problem. When will it ever end??!!

well I think your T-box simply has issues with certain matieral and maybe is trying to make better selections, purhaps this Tbox firmware is more clever than we think!  Or maybe the firmware devleopment team is all male!

Haha!  Thanks Cyril but I'd prefer to make my own tv selections and fishing is not high up there on must see programming.

Hi Christine,

It is a first (and so far only) time that has happened to us. The planner correctly identifies what we asked to record for both programmes, but one is obviously wrong.

Regards,
Clive

I'm on my second T-Box and still regret my purchase. Aside from multiple tuners, the old digital decoder + my Sony HDR was better in almost all ways. It's still rare for my box to run 7 days without freezing. It's simply not reasonable (as one poster suggests) to expect customers to do a full power-cycle weekly. Even when I did that it did not stop the box freezing.

TelstraClear support has verbally acknowledged that the boxes are sluggish. Also that the EPG is less than perfect. They feed corrections back to the EPG provider, but I think for every link that is corrected a new one is incorrect. For example, last week I ended up getting repeated episodes of Family Guy for each day. The links had been correct till then. Many programmes have no links, e.g. the repeated episode of Ice Pilots. Because we've only got 6 days of EPG you have to wait a couple of days to manually add a reminder again.

One repeatable bug is that the box will try and record 3 programmes at a time, and freeze. There were times where I could see this happening because of padding, so I removed the offending reminders. Other times though it happens because the EPG has an incorrect link and the T-Box happily adds a third recording when it is not technically possible. TC is aware of this issue too.

The one light on the horizon is that I'm told an update will come later in the year (not the next update) that allows you to manually set recordings. I hope this is implemented at least as well as it is in the standard digital decoder. When I've got that I anticipate only setting recordings manually.

Have you tried any of KiwiNZ's fixes?

I wouldn't describe any of the suggestions as "fixes", but to answer:

1. Totally disagree with the "supporting argument" of the weekly reboot suggestion but - as mentioned - I have indeed done that (at less than 7 day intervals). It didn't help.
2. I have the padding set to 10 minutes because that's what I prefer. TC Support suggested I set it to zero to reduce the situations where the box tries to record 3 programmes at once, but I just keep a closer eye on the Planner now. Freezes over the last couple of weeks have occurred where there has been NO overlap of recordings.
3. My hard drive rarely gets fuller than 80%. I delete recordings after watching them.
4. My box has nothing on top, and ample space at the sides.
5. I don't do anything rapidly on my T-Box ;-)

Brief aside - this afternoon I found that the EPG only went to midnight Wednesday (i.e. 2 1/2 days). I therefore cycled the power and may have got a new firmware revision. EPG is once again showing 6 days and the version is 2.9.22. Version 2.9.20 was supposed to fix the issue where firmware was not automatically updated, but maybe it's still not happening.

I wouldn't either, "workarounds" is probably a better word :)

I have had a T-box for some time after previously having a series one Tivo I brought in from the US several years ago.
Does anyone else feel like they are paying through the nose to be part of some sort of Telstra Beta testing project ?
There is no way the T-box is ready for primetime.

The interface is clunky and unresponsive, the hardware sometimes gets too hot to touch underneath (yes it has plenty of space) and the whole user interaction is poor - you cant search for anything, sort anything, you have to reboot it once a week. Altogether a bit of a disappointment

Youbetcha. I recommend you submit your concerns to TC via the online Compaints form. I did so in April (at the recommendation of a Customer Support person) and had a couple of long discussions with someone who understood what I was talking about, and forthright in what was coming up. I'm reasonably confident that he will have filed a bug report with the software developers about the reproducible "freezing" issue I encountered. He was well aware of the sluggishness, so I'm sure eventually there'll be some improvements.

The more people submit formal complaints using a letter or the online form, the more likely it is that TC will submit issues to the developers and (given your heating issue) the manufacturers - and maybe compensate us for a service that isn't of acceptable quality.

We have now had our T-Box for a month and I agree 100% with your comments. I understand that it was introduced over a year ago and these problems should have been rectified. I live in hope that the software will be improved. I guess the two year contact is there for a purpose.? So far we have only had to reboot once during the month we have had it, but I am not sure that that is something to be pleased about.

Could you share with us what is coming up, it may make things less frustrating.?

Perhaps not less frustrating ;-) But here's what I noted during my conversations.

Most notable feature coming "later this year" is the ability to do manual recording.

There will likely be a "MySky-like" feature that automatically extends a recording if the programme runs over time. This is mainly for sports.

Ongoing patching to resolve issues.

They are aware of the sluggishness including sluggish response to the remote, and have raised that with the developers.

They are working with Sky on improving EPG accuracy. They thought my request for more than 6 days of EPG was a good idea, but later said they had no control of that. It's all they are given.

I was told that my T-Box should not be freezing as it was "not something others are reporting". So if anyone's T-Box is freezing (i.e. only way to revive it is to cycle the power) then please tell TelstraClear.

That last bit made me laugh - TelstraClear know darn well that people have T-Boxs that freeze and I am one of those people who have spoken to them.  Thankfully we haven't had that problem for a few weeks *touch wood* but every now and then when we turn the TV on we get like going down the screen - kind of like watching a very old grainy TV show.  The only way to fix it seems to be to reboot.

If it's any consolation MySky does not seem to be perfect either as I know my friend and my sister have both had programmes fail to record after the series link vanished.  I tend not to series link any more on my T-Box as I just don't trust it.
