Is it just me, or does the fact that TelstraClear's recent Homeplan offer ($75/Month for phone + 40GB B/Band) excludes existing customers feel like a slap in the face?

I'd noticed the billboards, the banner ad's on Yahoo etc & thought 'brilliant - good deal' only to discover, nope, "Offer excludes existing customers".

I'm currently paying $90/Month for phone + 20GB.

Feels a tad insulting to be 'rewarded' for 5+ years loyal custom by being left paying over the odds for what is now, apparently, a grandfathered plan.

I'm waiting on a response from the company. Hopefully they'll see my point of view - i.e that a good deal should apply to all & not simply those for whom TelstraClear would like to attract from other providers.
I've had nothing but good service from this ISP in the past. That said, I will be looking at other options if I'm told 'Sorry, no dice'.

It's a competitive market out there and IMHO loyalty is a two way street.

I wonder how other TelstraClear customers feel about this.

1. Sign up with a new ISP on a no term contract.
2. Sign up with Telstra as a new or returning customer.

/problem

I signed up to this plan and I am an existing customer. Telstra customers can sign up but don't get the 2 months free. Saves me $25 a month + 40gb instead of 20gb.

its not just Telstra, Sky does it and Telecom does it as well,. they have a promo at the moment join for 12 months for total Broadband package pick you data and you get $10 of your monthly bill and you get a free Tivo, new customers only

There is a 12 month term on this deal, so it's the usual bait-and-lockin move that big ISPs like to do.

I called TelstraClear today to discuss this as my parent's homeplan contract had ended
Managed to get them onto this deal: 40 gig cap, phone with big back yard (waikato) - $78 a month which includes wiring maintenance

If I remember right, the lady said for new customers there was an $80 joining fee plus a month in advance so I guess that is how they cover 2 months free

Ya I'm kinda confused to be honest...  In my time in Australia, this is how stuff was done all the time.  Existing customers would get deals if they agreed to stay.  Over there it would quickly become a 2 out for 1 in with my friends if providers did dumb stuff like what is being suggested - not looking after customers.

Thanks Don,
Have considered it & in fact emailed that message through to them. Awaiting a response.
I guess my primary reason for posting is to gauge reaction from others in a similar position.
To my mind, it is simply is a basic question of equity/fairness.
They've generally been pretty good in the past so I'm hopeful that we can
reach some sort of accommodation without drastic measures.
Simply think that an ISP wishing to maintain a good ongoing relationship with consumers
would offer one plan for all.

Called after hours yesterday & hit one of their offshore contact centres. Was told 'Sorry, can't help you'. If I can simply call 'em & sign on as
you have then, cool, problem solved. That'll teach me for not calling during my lunch break!

I also got a free modem. I am happy. Only drawback is I signed a 12mth contract, mind you I have been a tc customer for about 8 years.

Thanks all,
I'll call tomorrow & sign on for the new plan. 12 month contract np as I like the company & have been with 'em for some time.
If they're happy to follow through and alter my plan then - great - no problem.
All replies greatly appreciated.
Will keep you posted viz their response.

i'm quite angry at this ... for no good reason though :)

coz i've signed up to telecom for one month - costs $115 per month for 12 mths albeit 60gb .. and then they drop this bombshell of rather cheap internet and phone and modem and 2 mths free!

i guess i tell myself telecom is more reliable :(
