Hi,

I am having this issue with my laptop

Acer Aspire 5542G
Windows 7

Whenever it boots up it shows a BSOD even when booting in safe mode.

I have managed to use a boot cd to copy the Memory.DMP file and used the windows debugger to see why this is happening:

It's a display driver error. Perhaps the video card is faulty?

It has been working fine until now, no changes in hardware.

How would I check the driver?

Google suggests bung ATI video drivers. Lots of people getting it since mid last month or earlier.

If its not going into safe mode, or normal mode. Afraid your likely only option is re-install (from backup of course) unless you can work out how to force it to vga mode.

/edit and the high poobah beat me to it.

Ram test off the likes of a recovery boot util is a start.

A little update:

I have managed to boot into low graphics mode and disabled VGA. Managed to uninstall the driver that was causing this.

It is now booting up and is downloading the newest driver. Still a little while to go (very slow internet here).

Thanks for your help so far. Hopefully the new driver will cause no BSOD.

I think the problem has been solved.

After being able to boot with VGA off I was able to install a new driver and everything seems to be working fine.

Thanks for all the help!
