At work we use lots of precedents.  They are often updated and sometimes hard to find.

It is very useful using the Windows search function and forcing it to search the precedents folder only.  But this takes lots of 'clicks' and not everyone in our office is good with computers.

Is it possible to create a maco so we have a button on the Word ribbin that will automatically open a search box and have it only search that one specific folder?  Note: I know what a Macro is, but have no idea how to make them.

Any advice apreciated!

Cheers

Could you not just insert a link to the folder, windows has a build in search box on the task bar, or am I missing something?

You probably know how to do this but

If your folder is a network folder then I think every user has to map it to the same drive name/letter, otherwise the hyperlink path won't work.

Cheers for the quick responses.

Sorry - not looking for a link in a word document - looking for an icon that perminantly lives on the ribbon that opens a specific folder (i.e. Precedents folder).

You are right tho - any folder includes search box so that certainly should make it easier...

using 'group policy' on a domain, you can roll these folder links out to the whole domain (and also remove other locations such as 'network'... #wtfmsd)
