nathan: "early next year" is the official answer

Hi Nathan
Can you clarify when the 265GB model be available in NZ ?

I talked to JB Hi-Fi and they cannot give me a confirmed date. The guy from neol leeming advised me that it will not be available next Tuesday but it will arrive on the 14th of Nov.

there is limited stock of 256gb, but its available tomorrow

Oh glad I got that pre-order in. I think that'll be a popular model.

Just had a call from Noel Leemings, the 256gb surface tablet I ordered will be ready for pickup tomorrow.

Which store did you order your 256G? I pre-order at Neol leeming as well but no news from them.

Queen street store. I also had an email soon after.

Thanks for the info.  I order mine one from the same store and they told me it's not going to be available till next year.

I am going to try my luck this morning.

Haha all you need to do is ask, and be prepared to pay cash.  I was um-ing and ah-ing until he said 1755 for the tablet, and 150 for the keyboard.

Pretty great discount for something that came out today and is in super limited supply, the unit hadn't even been taken out of the shipping box when I bought it.  $1900 is still a lot to pay though I feel, but better than $2079.

I don't think I'm ever going to call the Surface Pro a 'price fighter' but spec for spec it is as good or better than anybody's Ultrabook + tablet.

I'm considering one as my next computer, it just makes sense.

I also doubt they will radically drop the price for the Pro as it is about right for what is delivered.

if you look at the tech inside it, its good value. Wacom 1024 pressure sensitive digitiser, optically fused and bonded into the HD screen, the 4th Gen Core i5 Intel Haswell chip, the LPDDR3 RAM, the construction of the durable VaporMG case...

Yeah, I agree. But you should be throwing at least the Touch Cover in for free, right?

$184 makes you guys look stingy when the keyboard is the special sauce. Keep the Type cover to sell as an extra.

A years free Office 365 would and this would be a really good deal.

we can make the keyboard "free" by bumping up the base price

As others have pointed out retailers are selling the covers for 150 cash by the sounds of it

There are some legal reasons about not being able to include Office

AFAIK, with every purchase of Surface 2 or Surface Pro 2 device, you get 200GB free SkyDrive for 2 years + 1 year unlimited Skype world calling to quite a few countries.

That would be good, but  SkyDrive is currently broken for me as I cant access my OneNote 2010 files. Giving me 200GB of not being able to access things probably wouldn't be of any benefit.  Not sure what I would do with 1 years Skype calling, everyone I know has Skype anyhow, so calling them is free.

Okay, I'm actually planning to buy a Surface Pro 2 with my own money, including a touch cover. I might moan about it but I think I have done my research and decided that it will fit my needs better than any other product on the market.

I work in the media and Microsoft is doing a much better job of getting the message out this time around. The main message this time is that the Surface Pro 2 isn't a traditional tablet as we have known them the term being used is 'ultra portable PC'.

Having said that the Surface 2 line needs to be a come back. We all know who rules consumer tech and you can get an Air for under $1500. Like it or not that is the benchmark, it might not have touch but it does have a keyboard.

I, rather obviously, don't work for Microsoft and I'm not expecting them to change pricing based on my say so. I also think Nathan is doing a great job of fighting his corner. But I don't think it is a completely stupid idea that Microsoft take a hit on the price of this round of Surface devices in order to get some market share.

You all might or might not agree but I hope that comes across as fair.

these are all great points that I'm forwarding onto the right people

i will point out I'm posting here off my own bat, I'm not paid to be here.

I've not seen anyone from Google or Apple engage in this community

i think a Surface 2 for $649 retail, with Office 2013 incl Outlook, with a full size USB3, with MicroSDXC, 1080p screen, 25% better, battery life, 2x overall speed, 6x graphics per, with unlimited Skype calling to 60 countries for a year, and 200GB SkyDrive cloud storage represents good value.

About to install Photoshop CC and work on a couple 500MB files, lets see how it goes.

So far pen input can be a bit finicky as it doesn't always hit the target, re-calibrated the digitzer and it's a bit better.

keyboard is def smaller than a laptop, and feels far smaller than my Envy X2 - not sure if it is though.
