I logging last night (Wednesday) around 9pm. Do a Windows Update check and the update to Windows 10 button shows up. Run the update till the download completed. Did a restart and went to sleep.

Work up this morning all done! A little house keeping like installing apps, setup PIN etc. and is all working now.

Am using a HP Envy Laptop. Surprised at everything on on my task bar is still there even with the desktop background. Oh yeah. I bought the Minecraft for Windows 10 beta too ;)

Very impressed so far.

Check your update log if there is a bunch of 'Failed' errors then try the reload method I posted yesterday, it worked a dream for me.

The automated upgrade installation yesterday failed numerous times for me. And I had to use the Download Tool and even when running Download Tool with "Upgrade this OS" it gave "Something happened" error.

I opted to make ISO and mount the ISO and performed upgrade that way. It appeared the upgrade error that stopped/failed numerous times could be the fact that my Windows 8.1 Pro had Media Centre installed as well as cannot attained a confirmation from me that it will be removed in Windows 10.

*rolleyes*

Has the "Something happened" error happened to anyone with a Win7 PC or is it only Win8/8.1?

Life is too short to remove USB safely.

Not home any longer, but region change was the only thing that allowed me to begin the install after numerous failed attempts.

Shouldn't is cool, real experience though.

invisibleman18: Am currently using Windows 7 and I get this message that my wireless adapter is not compatible and I may not be able to connect to the internet:

Guess the upgrade is not worth the risk.

Virtual wireless adapter? Meaning not your real wireless adapter e.g. a virtual one to make a virtual machine work or something?

What are all your network devices in device manager at the moment?

I don't know what the virtual wireless adapter is doing, it's nothing I've knowingly set up. In device manager I also have DW1501 Wireless-N Half-Mini Card and a couple of Bluetooth Devices.

send us a screen shot of "Device Manager" with the Network Adapters tree expanded

Thanks. Didn't see this last night so will do when I get home tonight. Also maybe a bit of a dumb question but will upgrading wipe the hard drive or will files still be there? Good time to do a backup anyway I guess.

Try uninstalling media center yourself from control panel.
It will still give you the it will be removed error.
This was the one change I made that stopped the "Something wrong" errors and allowed upgrade from there.

From W7 home.  $Windows.~BT folder is around 5.94GB, no prompts, nothing's changed - but in the background windows update keeps trying something which keeps failing:

Error details:

Upgrade to Windows 10 Home

Installation date: ‎30/‎07/‎2015 8:16 a.m.

Installation status: Failed

Error details: Code 80240020

Update type: Important

Install the next version of Windows.

More information:

I was kind of keen to install, to see if some image processing software (now unsupported) would run under win10.  However, I have an enterprise edition of W7u from which I will do a clean install on this machine - when I get around to it - as I don't think I want W10 home edition as the OS on this machine, mainly because of limitations on update scheduling.

Question re upgrade: Since my laptop refuses to use the Media tool or Get Windows 10 app to upgrade, is it safe to try putting it onto a USB and trying it from there? (i.e. is there some preq-req check that won't happen and so the upgrade will leave the laptop unusable?)

Brumfondl: In the top right hand corner click on the three lines (Hub), then click Import favourites. The options I see are IE and Chrome.

Yep, I knew where to find that, its just that there is no option for Firefox or Opera.  I'm probably going to have to export bookmarks from FF to IE and then import to Edge.  As for Opera, I can't see a way to export bookmarks at all.

HP Stream 8.1 with Bing - upgraded using MediaCreationTool.exe update this PC and updated to Windows 10 Home, then had to use clean up to remove prior OS otherwise had no disk space!

Original Microsoft Surface Pro running 8.1 - upgraded from DVD ISO downloaded from the link mentioned earlier, ran setup.exe and all went smoothly, did clean up again to recover disk space.

Touch tablet running 7 Pro, - MediaCreationTool helpfully said that "something happened". Will try later with Win10 32bit Pro DVD ISO.
