System crash while doing complete PC backup Win 7 Home Premium 64

Hi i know this is a long shot but hey I'll just post it out there and see what happens. I have a laptop that has been behaving weird for about 2 months - initially when we have had browsers with many tabs open and we standby - wake - standby - wake for 1 - 2 weeks it will give BSOD (not sure which codes sorry). At that time complete PC backup is fine. But now when i complete PC image backup it will stop at exactly 86GB (there is 89GB) every time. System will freeze. I dont have cd to run memtest so i swapped my 2 ram modules and insert only one at a time. Exactly the same. I dont believe it is my external HDD as i have since backed the entire system as individual files. I thought about to use third party backup program but hey is there any use if i can only restore it to badness ;p There was once I got to BSOD and it says "Kernel Data Inpage Error" code is 0x0000007A offending module is MSRPC.sys more about my system Dell XPS 1645 laptop Win 7 Home Premium 64 Avast free 6GB ram OCZ vertex 2 SSD 120GB

kinda sounds like either bad ram or bad hard drive. where its corrupting stuff in memory or temp files or swap on hard drive even it was infection i suspect you be getting other errors before that one i use ghost 15... never fails me.. however it installs a special service vproc that has system rights so it can read all files and back them up this serrvice often causes ejecting issues on usb drives I find so I wrote a autoit exe that stops the service allowing safe ejection but normally quick removal is no problem

the error will be if you change ram.. must be the internal drive try this 1) force a scandisk via my computer and properties then tools and select scandisk for C driver sched and tick recover bad blocks 2) reboot then clean out all temp folder will CCLEANER or alike try backup again if still locks up same place then 3) grab malwarebytes and scan for malware as it could be interferring with your backup software somehow or leaving a file open and blocking software access rootkit issue perhaps if finds something clean it and repeat 4) try online scanners also incase like avast! and nortons and see if they find anything... root kits are tricking to find normally if they not in definitions of scanners they always are missed right? unless avast! or alike running on pc all the time checking files for suspicions 5) i would download the trial of ghost 15 and see if they also crashes during backup or in same place

no malwarebytes malware - zero no rookits or the likes with avast bootime scan - zero standard disk check okay. have not done thorough cluster scan coz no time yet.

it sounds like a lot of things. might have to suscribe to another forum to get someone to read my minidump.dmps .... or .... time to get a new one ... or just dont do pc image backups (will stick to this for now)

Yep do a disk image backup with another tool ASAP. If that fails, try taking the SSD out and imaging it in another machine OR bootable CD/USB live cd to image it so the running the OS isn't involved. I would suspect the SSD or ram, is the SSD running the latest firmware?

so i did thorough cluster checkdisk on the ext hdd nothing did cluster chkdsk on reboot for SSD and sure enough it hit BSOD giving me "driver power state failure" .... 0x0000009F now i am in a BSOD boot loop. reinstall on the way. *sigh wonder if it's my computer or the hard drive ... if it is, it's till under warranty but how do you prove it aye
