I want to try out Mint or Ubuntu. To avoid bootloader issues in the future if I don't want to continue using an os, is it recommended to install win7 and linux on separate disks or onto one disk partitioned.

I have booted from the linux image cd and it doesn't recognise an existing win7 install on my disks. Is this normal?

I would have suggested VMware player or virtual box to install the linux machine onto then you have no issues with boot loaders/.

Or download the wubi installer for Ubuntu. It allows you to install the OS as a Windows program and dual boot that way. Then if you don't like it you just remove it from Add/Remove Programs.

I don't think Mint has a version of this.

Also the live CD wont detect Windows until you start the install process and it runs through gparted.
