I was recently made redundant, and as part of the leaving package was given a near new macbook pro 17 inch because the company, under new IT leadership, was removing the few mac's they had.

I have really enjoyed it the last couple of months, however I wish that the IT Dept had gotten a smaller one because I use it on the couch in the living room, travel with it occasionally, and it is just to big (though love the big screen for watching streaming sport).

I am considering selling it on trade me and changing to a new 13 inch one. Do you think there would be a market for this kind of machine even though they are no longer producing them, and what kind of value should I expect?

.... did see this one that was the same for $3,730,

though my one's warranty expires February 2013, but on the plus side has Microsoft Office Pro 2011 licensed and installed (does tho change value).

Do you think this is a good idea? Are there other issues I need to consider?

Big screens for serious office and/or development work, and for super mega ultra lightning power web users, at the cost of portability.

For general web and media consumption, and less intensive work (i.e. one or two windows open side by side at a time) then 13"-15" rules the roost, as you can carry them in a much smaller bag.

When I travel, I exclusively do it with iPad and my Galaxy S3 now, unless I know for a fact I need a full desktop environment (and dont want to RDP through a smart device).

I used to travel with an 11" laptop in an iPad shoulder bag.

YMMV

There is a market. Some users want a large screen + occasional portability with no intention to use it on the move or even on a couch.

As for price it costs nothing to test the market with a reasonable reserve and an ideal buy now.
