Topic # 128817 24-Aug-2013 14:10 Send private message

Hi all,

my macbook pro's key have been playing up since this morning. i don't know if its hardware or software problem.

when i press any alphabet keys on the macbook it either mutes or un mutes the macbook. it is very random. sometimes pressing 'r' 'k' or 'c' mutes .

i have restarted my computer a few times but in vain.

just wondering if anyone has had same problem or has any solution.

Cheers!

Did you originally reset the SMC or the PRAM? They're both different. The SMC should sort this.

There was an issue reported with some earlier (pre 2009?) MBPs that affected the keyboard and trackpad. Not sure what year yours is, but this may help.

If you're running 10.7 or later then reboot into the recovery system (Cmd-R at boot). If you're using 10.6 then boot from the DVD. Open up Terminal from the Utilities menu and try typing some stuff and see what happens. That'll track down whether it's a software or hardware issue.

Given the age, that link I posted is probably not relevant. Ring Apple, and get it logged as a fault before your warranty expires
