just about at wits end. Some cat comes around once a week and sprays the front door and then the smell goes through the house. Deodorizer and white vinegar wont get rid of the smell.  To try and disuade the cat over last year  I have sprayed the area with white vinegar and planted a couple of lavender plants each side of front door to no avail.   I have sprinkled cayenne pepper also to no avail.  Orange peels and lemon peels and citronella spray also dont work.  So went to mitre10 and got STOP Cat and dog repellent and every 2 days sprinkle the green smelly crystals around. Also doesnt bother the cat.
Anyone have any other ideas.  Normally I dont mind cats but this one would defintely benefit from lead pellet if not in town.  I think I know which the culprit is as I keep chasing a ginger tom away when I catch it spraying around the hedges.

I like cats. Best solution is a high power water pistol. They hate it and will not come back after you get them a few times. Also it is completely harmless. Warehouse has tons of them.

Get your own male cat and that will scare it away. Thats what we did as we had heaps of cats coming around spraying.

yeah but there is our neighbours cat to worry about.

I managed to sneak up on this one yesterday afternoon and as it started to spray suirted it with water. It jumped and took off running.  Think it must have come back last night and sprayed just to spite me.

I squirted it yesterday afternoon with water bottle as it was too busy starting to spray and didnt see me.  Think it came back later out of spite.  Had thought about a water pistol but as never having one wasnt sure how far it would spray.

You may be dealing with more than one cat. More than one cat will compete for the same spot.

You don't have to wait for them to spray before deterring them. Cats are pretty smart about property boundaries and will soon get the idea.

Perhaps a new thread for water gun recommendations based on accuracy and volume.

mod edited but I never took the suggestion seriously anyway. I would never harm an animal in any way apart from snails and slugs and then I always ensure the pellets are cat and dog safe.

In terms of getting rid of the smell, I can recommend Odarid - bit pricey, but it's an amazing product.  Most other products just mask the smell, this product reacts directly and neutralises the offending substances.

Water pistols and a nearby hose to scare it away is a good idea. They are only doing what comes natural to them.

My friend, who has owned dozens of species of pets, told me once that if you trap a cat, in a humane trap or cage, and give it a good hosing, it will never, ever return :)

Cheers,
Joseoh
