Was it from Amazon? ANZ don't have Visa debit cards yet so I'm assuming it was a regular one?

Yes the item was from Amazon and paid for with an ANZ Platinum Visa Credit card.

Mine arrived at youshop today so that's +1 to the container, lol

$46.33 shipping :|

Asus RT-N66U + packaging weighing in at 1.6kg with volumetric weight being 2.5kg

Ouch. That kinda sucks. Given that the technical specs only cover the device itself and not the accessories and packaging it's going to be pretty hard to work out the total weight of a package let alone the volumetric weight.

Amazon usually lists the packaging size and weight. Obviously this is for individual items and I suspect it's only the item itself, not the shipping package.

Wasn't really concerned about the cost anyway, just testing the service really.

If they are going to sit and wait till a container is full before sending items then that'll be the first and last time I use the service

Sorry I haven't read through all 11 pages, but all this looks like is a re-branded service from www.myus.com , which works well, is very fast but similarly expensive.

Not "rebranded" but "similar". As Prezoom, Shipito and others.

1080p:
jonherries: I am waiting for some sunglasses. Used youshop. Few comments:

Login and account management via nzpost is poor.
Target delivery date is a week and a half, that is slower than apple shipping stuff from china.
Not clear how they come up with the price. Says my volumetric weight is 1.5Kg (sunglasses remember), but only paid the 500g rate...

Jon

Care to clarify on NZPost's log in failures? I find the site supremely easy to use and really like it. I also use their TradeMe share feature extensively. It really is great work by them in my opinion.

Given that you're paying Apple a premium price for nearly everything - including shipping - it is hardly surprising that they provide expedited shipping.

There are two weight dimensions given by NZPost, the parcel (actual) weight and volumetric weight which is the weight calculated by the volume (space) the box occupies.

The actual weight is what the fees are based on unless your volumetric weight is extreme in which case NZPost reserve the right to charge on volumetric weight. Fair enough if you're going to ship a feather in a fridge box.

Re: the first comment about logging in:

Youshop doesnt appear anywhere on the homepage of nzpost at all, they seem to believe it is more important to tell me about the "new" kapiti postshop.
When I log in, I see the same homepage with a tickbox 1/3 of the way down the page telling me Im signed in, but the login at the top, where on most sites it gives you some account info or an indication that your log in was successful, looks exactly the same as before. Still no reference to youshop at all on the page.
Where am I then supposed to click to find youshop?, I had to guess at clicking on account, and woohoo youshop comes up, but dont try going anywhere else in the site cause the only way back is clicking on account again...

Poor was possibly a limited explanation hopefully this spells out the dis jointed nature of the site as it stands.

FYI shipping is free on the apple website, but if i compare the service similarly to royal mail or amazon, they must get a discount on filling and sending lots of containers at once because this is much slower than other orders.

Likewise It is lovely that I could order a kilo of feathers or lead, it matters not to me how they choose to measure it, it just needs to be clear what I am buying. Ie charge one way or the other don't display both, I am sure that is programmable somewhere...

Jon

The service is not officially launched yet, that's why it's not linked from the front page.

So I wonder what the detail is in regards to filling the container. Is it only going to be filled with items purchased via YouShop or items from other sources as well? If it is only from YouShop and they are still pre-launch then it could take a while before it is sent. The kindle I ordered is not due till the end of October, wonder if that will also be on the first container Wink

Remember you only need to use YouShop if you purchase one of the Kindle models not available for direct shipping by Amazon - those usually get here in four to five days and probably shipping costs less.

Now if you are buying one of the new models, then yes, use YouShop, or Prezoom, or ShipiTo, or....

Below is a reply I received from NZPost this morning regrading delivery policy which may be of interest.

"The delivery target for your YouPost item once payment has been made is 7 - 11 working days so your item should be expected for delivery by around the 4th of October. Once your item has arrived in New Zealand you will be able to view the arrival scan using your tracking number NZxxxxxxxxxUS and our tracking tool at the following link:

http://www.nzpost.co.nz/tools/tracking"

The PreZoom folks let me know their service has been extended to the UK now.

"...I'm happy to let you know that we have just added PreZoom service from the United Kingdom to the New Zealand market. Now PreZoom members can add their British favourites to an already vast selection of stores and brands by using PreZoom's local UK address for their British online shopping.

We've kept it simple by offering the same superb service, same account number and the same all-inclusive low rates as our current US service. Deliveries from either the UK or the US cost NZ$19.50 for the first 500grams and NZ$4.50 for each additional 500grams."
