tieke:  I had assumed that the youshop charge would have been included in the customs calculations, but thought I would double check.

Your assumption is correct, the shipping cost (both US/UK and youshop) are all supposed to be included in the calculation.

This doesn't always happen though. :)

This is getting expensive! (but in a good way)
After not finding everything I wanted while recently in the USA, I ordered a few things from USA stores who either offered free postage or cheap flat rate postage to a USA address.

These parcels have been arriving at YouShop over the last week and yesterday I shipped 5 parcels which cost me $130NZ in postage.

However, this is still cheaper than what the parcels would have cost me to ship direct from the USA (if I could have even gotten the items shipped direct)

3 more parcels on the way, along with my first 'card to call' left at YouShop as USPS tried to deliver mid afternoon Saturday according to the tracking information.

I've decided to use another outfit as they offer consolidation services, and also repacks into smaller boxes for you for a small fee - ship2u.co.nz.
I'm in a battle trying to convince YouShop to remove some excessive packaging (2 boxes within 1 gigantic box) - will hopefully hear back from them in a few days about a forced repackage.

Received an email today:

With YouShop, you can buy fantastic gifts for friends and family from the USA, UK and Europe — and to make sure Santa has the best chance of delivering on time, pay to ship your shopping before Tuesday 3 December.

So folk, if you are planning on buying things through our Amazon affiliate link (or any other really), get moving now!

Anyone got the latest promo codes? Got my Nexus 5 sitting at the warehouse so if anyone has one to save me a few $$ would be much appreciated :)

Noticed a new email - your parcel has cleared customs, which is good to receive.

Had my first spilt delivery yesterday - 2 parcels that arrived in the country and cleared customs within minutes of each other did not arrive at the same time. One arrived yesterday and the other parcel is still in Auckland according to tracking.

Fingers crossed for its arrival today.

"Cleared customs" means it was processed by customs. Not necessarily fees waived.

Battled with YouShop to force a re-package but due to the 2 boxes within the box they would not touch the package. Infant clothing weighing roughly 3.1kgs but volumetric weight of 9kgs.

YouShop $108 to send it back to NZ - not what I was wanting to pay so managed to have YouShop reroute the package to ship2u.co.nz.

Registered my package on ship2u.co.nz - got a text to confirm the items have been warehoused and ready to pay. Shipment costs after repackage 3.5kg volumetric weight $42.50 NZD!

Although I had to pay roughly $15 USD to ship from YouShop to ship2u.co.nz - I'll be using them for future forwarding.

My first attempt to use YouShop has not got off to a great start, due to their volumetric weight calculations. I've purchased a turntable from Amazon, and after using the YouShop estimate calculator based on the weight & dimensions for the package, I decided to use them as their shipping costs were cheaper than what Amazon wanted to charge me (by around $60 (I know... alarm bells should've been ringing)).

I was given a quote of NZD $138 for shipping costs (which used the actual weight to perform the calculation), but got the package notification email today. YouShop are now telling me I have to pay $241.75), as they used volumetric weight as a basis for the calculation.

I'm a little shocked that the estimate and actual could vary by so much (especially considering I'd used packaging dimensions from the manufacturers website), and am currently in talks with NZ Post to see what can be done. I'll keep y'all posted, but I guess the moral here is to tread very carefully indeed.

What you do can is perform a return via Amazon - they will provide a return pre-paid label for UPS Ground.
You chat to NZPost online and upload and provide them the return label.

Have it sent back to Amazon - re-order again and ship to NZ direct (if they allow it to).

Thats worth considering, thanks.

I'll see what NZ Post can do for me here. If they can discount my current fees to bring it within a hairs whisker of what Amazon would charge me, I'll go with that.
