[big story] Went to HN Manukau today, looked like it was closed because they had blacked out the windows. When we found the sign that said: "yes we are open" we entered and found the cordless phones we wanted had been reduced from $250 to $98. (prices all obscured by black pieces of paper.) It was very busy with people looking but the queue at the door was short so not many people actually buying would be my guess.  The phones were a good price so we were happy. [big story\]

Their beds have a huge mark-up - a $1000 discount is really nothing as I recently found during my furniture shop.

It's still $300 less than anything else I can find in town

CASH always speaks at HN or any appliance / furniture retailer. Your kidding if you want to get a great deal and interest free at the same time.

Under the Fair Trading Act if they are offering interest free terms then they have to give their best price. ie If they have a 12-months interest free deal on and you ask them how much cash for that $999 TV, and they say $800 cash, you can say right then $800 on 12 months interest free thanks. I know that, as with CGA, rights in theory don't always translate into rights in practice, but the Commerce Commission has prosecuted appliance retailers for this. Best bet is always have your phone video recording when talking with the salesman. Whether your discount is worth the time and hassle of making a complaint to the CC when they don't comply with the FTA is another matter...

Went and had a look at HN yesterday after doing a few hours of DIY. Wasn't that impressed with the "specials" at all.

A lot of people were walking out empty handed.

Because of that BS law about offering interest free etc it makes it futile to go shopping when they have the interst free promotions on. I really wish that they would butt out of that area so much.

Didn't look that closely but I think it was down to $370 from $450.  Although we bought it from the same store less than a month afor for $340 (or thereabouts) on special.  The sucker in question is a Miele S5211, very impressed with it.

Exactly. Never buy anything from a big brand retailer while they're running a 60 months internet free weekend.

They had 40% off all headphones (20% off Beats).
Bought Sol Amps HD for $100, compared to $120 at JB Hifi and $160 on the Online Apple Store.

The only good thing about the TV ads is that there is no HN voice over shouting at you, just a black screen. Makes a change.

Bought a super king bed and bedding for $2600. No one else in town could get close to let alone under 3k for comparable products.

Also bed shopping is damn boring
