What's with VLC stuttering during the playback of full HD MKV/MP4 videos? In all fairness I am streaming it from my MyBookLive via router but the videos still play perfectly on WMP and my Samsung TV.

I've tried to the GPU acceleration trick but no luck with that. Any suggestions?

try a nightly build .. im using 2.05 and it works
for everything.no stutters. I like seeing the timeline and
the 1.5-2x speed play back without mickey mouse
other players dont have
and the real time sharpener works a treat
for vhsrips and blurry videos.. enhances white
of eyes

http://nightlies.videolan.org/build/win32/?C=M;O=D

have you tried using its webinterface?
how I find 1.11.1 version works with apps
but I see theres a host hack to fix for
the new v2.x mods

I can stream from my windows 7 using it
using a app like vlc direct pro free
on my tablet(android)

however BS players app LAN mode works
great also and can play videos to tablet
using shares

but also try tweaking cache up.. might be
a bad wifi strength.. or change router channel
might be conflicting with next doors?

else try KMPLAYER.. its top heavy more resources
but offers more options (but still sharpener
and play back speed no match for VLC)

the beta 2.05 (however you could try the 2.1 development strain as well)

they upload new builds daily.. so each build may fix a issue bit also introduce new ones..

just grab the top 2 and install one and test

videolan.org lists the alphas.. the stable releases.. the latest is 2.05 there

and the dates are in the filenames.. even if its backwards e.g. 20121119

etc

how you know which day it was made other numbers are the version and build numbers

not sure which build im using but think it was last weeks

I had the same issue, thought it was because I changed something so I went to MPC with GPU acceleration.

Cpu: Phenom x4 955, Mobo: Asus M4A89TD, Ram: 8GBDDR3, GPU: EAH6870 , Hdd1: WD 500gb Blue, Hdd2: WD 500gb Blue, PSU: Corsair hx750, Case: Coolermaster Haf932, OS: Win 7 64bit Ultimate, Extras: Coolermaster V8 CPU cooler

yes its better with GPU enable and set to 6

however there are some advance tweaks in advance settings

like set the cache bigger or alter some of the decoding
levels

I find it best to test stream over wired first then
try wifi to try to pin if its soft, streaming or hardware
wireless issues

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Still no change after installing 2.0.5. I can still watch the videos on WMP but I'd rather use VLC for its efficiency

IMO, all dates should be written like this. Allows for much better file sorting if the date is put at the start of the filename.

what speed is your machine your running VLC?

i have a radeon and i7 laptop and mkvs play fine

more cores the better and ram of course if
playing directly

but streaming shouldnt matter

I say you prob have some other setup issue

I recently bought a Wifi Drive (gauntlet Node) from usa
and inserted a 128gb SSD drive

man it didnt work.. I upgraded the firmware to latest
and then it worked but you had to install a std drive
first with the bin file on it..
then it still didnt stream.. dropped all the time

turns out its a firmware bug
so I left the std non ssd 750gb and it works sweet
can stream or play from windows shares from it
over wifi to pc,laptop and androids in the house
2 at the same time.

so maybe your streaming drive needs also a firmware
update? google about
its pays to always check the makers website
and check the firmware out matches your bought
one..

as bought ones often are miles behind with
firmware bugs!

Give some thought to spending time on the VLC forum as well. The developers are friendly towards well written reports with good information, and the community there is usually responsive.

If they do not know something is broken it will not be addressed.

Sometimes they just need people to hang around long enough to get good quality information from and work though the process. It is open source software and that is how you can make a valuable contribution towards the project.

I've never used VLC in windows but in Linux the problem you describe can be caused by the wrong video output selected.

If the options in Windows are the same as linux you could try going into preferences > Video
and changing output from 'default' to something from the drop-down list.

I have a reasonably low spec laptop and VLC plays 1080 video smoothly.

Try turning off deinterlacing and Video Effects.

If you're on Windows press CTRL ALT DEL and change the VLC priority to High and see if that helps.

not the best... its sharpener sucks and doesnt have 1.5x playback speed
with proper sound

try them,.. why watch a show at normal speed when can watch it faster without loss
at 1.5 speed
